{Spotlight Project} Becca Gets to the Point

Do you ever see something and really, really want to give it a go? That's what happened with this card! I tried out a technique called pointillism.

Pointillism is a technique that uses tiny, tiny dots to create shading in an overall picture. Try googling some images and you will find pictures far more advanced than my creation, but hey! I had to start somewhere, right?

Speaking of starting, I stamped the daisy from the Bloom Sketches set onto a square piece of cardstock. And then I started making dots using a Micron pen.

And then I made more dots.

You can see that where I wanted a section to be more shaded, I made the dots closer together. Where I wanted the image to appear lighter, I made certain the dots were spaced farther apart.

I did the outer portion using blue, and made the flower blue, with the center brown. I softened up the edges of the stamped image by going over the stark lines with black dots.

I used a Spellbinders die and drew circles in the opening with orange pen.

I mounted it all on a piece of orange cardstock.

I used the Sketchy Alphabet set to stamp a simple "HI" inside, because I didn't want to muss the front.

Super cute, adorable... but definitely NOT simple.... This one square took me about 2 hours to complete to my satisfaction - so just be warned.

I would LOVE to see what you can create using the pointillism technique. If you do make something inspired by my project, make sure to link it up to our Spotlight Project Showcase. Each month or for every 25 entries in the linky, we'll randomly draw a winner who'll receive a $15 gift certificate to the shop. Plus we'll also pick 3 players whose entries we think stood out and one of them will win her choice of 5x7 stamp set and a Spotlight Project guest designer spot :o)

  8. WOW!! This is so cool!! I do not think I would have the patience to make all these dots. However, maybe if I stamped and then did this while I was sitting in class taking notes, I could do that instead of my doodles!! STUNNING card!!
