{Spotlight Project} Monika Plays With Water And Ink

Hello STAMPlorations Friends! As you've probably noticed, I'm really liking Deepti's new set Beautiful You. Playing with it the other day, I made this 'nature spirit' inspired card.

Let me take you through my process of how it came about.



I had this idea of wanting to achieve a bleeding watercolour look with my stamping.  I did this a couple of years ago with a much larger stamp and a different type of card than I currently have in my stash hence I thought I'd try what look I could achieve with my go-to stamping card and my mixed media card.

I cut 4 pieces of equal size, two from each type of card, decided where I wanted my image to be and secured the stamp to my stamping tool lid.  The stamp was left in position throughout.

The stamp was inked up with Cassis, Cerise and Mer Du Sud Izink inks, spritzed with water and first stamped on my go-to stamping card. There wasn't much bleeding out, only a bit of fuzziness around the edges.

Using the same type of card, I inked the stamp again, but instead of spritzing the stamp with water, I spritzed the piece of card before stamping it.  The result ... a rather nice almost feather like bleeding pattern.

Once the pieces had tried, I simply stamped the image again using the same colours as before.

Next I tried the same with my mixed media card.

Looking at the results, it was almost as if they developed their own personalities. I decided to work with the above image and pair it with one of the ARTplorations Faces stencils.

The initial idea was to heat emboss Foxy with pink embossing powder to help the face merge with my stamping.

Unfortunately or shall I say fortunately, I didn't apply the Versamark carefully enough and ended up with a partially embossed face.  It was easily remedied by carefully aligning the stencil and brushing on some of the Cerise I had used for my stamping. It added some interesting dimension to the stencilled face.

The distressed edges and a sentiment from the Strong Women set finished my card off.  Layering on a light coloured card base gave my card a soft and feminine look.
