{Spotlight Project} Maria Does Ink Lifting

Hello there STAMP friends! Time for another Spotlight post and today it's easy and artsy. This is nothing new - Jennifer M. has a video about it. But it's fun and unpredictable so I thought I'd share it here. Ready?

STEP 1

Gather supplies - I chose to use the floral bouquet from Shery's new set, Sweetly. Grabbed a panel of Neenah 80 lb solar white cardstock, embossing powder and Distress Inks.

STEP 2

On the panel of CS I stamped the bouquet with Versamark and heat embossed it.

STEP 3

This is the fun part. Take your ink pad (I used Mustard Seed) and smear that juicy ink all over the panel. Use your ink tool to get the ink into the smaller areas of the embossed image. (It was my personal choice to keep some white areas on the panel. Artsy, ya know?)

STEP 4

Take a brush with water and apply water to the image. This "lifts" the ink and you're left with a lighter area. If you don't more the brush around too much on the paper you won't have any pilling. It's interesting how different colors of ink react. Some have an array of pigments in them and you get a hint of the different tones when the ink lifts.

STEP 5

You don't have to do this step, but you can drop in some color to add interest to the image. I added some orange and pink to the flowers and green to the leaves. Rather than wasting the ink on the acrylic block, I added some water and splattered it onto the panel.

The panel gets pretty wet so you will need to dry it or let it dry overnight.

The last step was to heat emboss a sentiment onto vellum and stitch the vellum to the panel before adhering it to my cardbase.
