{Throwback Thursday} Thinking Out of the Box with Dies

Hey, STAMPlorations friends! Throwback Thursday is back and oh boy, you're all in for some serious inspiration from our very own Craftyfield

Hello everyone, happy Thursday! Today is my first of 4 Thursday Throwback posts and I am so excited!

My crafting usually involves stamping but, this Thursday, I chose this die-cut based creation by Maureen (photo below) that had me fascinated.

You can check the original post here.

First I created a camera with designer papers and used it as a topper on a card front:

These are the pieces I cut using the ATC Tag builder die set and the Tag O'Coffee (the viewfinder):

I added a circle and a thin piece of the designer paper to complete the design.
The sentiment stamped and embossed on the lens is from the Fond Expressions 2 stamp set.

Next, I made an attempt at making the camera as realistic as I could, taking inspiration from my own camera's colours.

These are the die-cuts I needed and the dies I used to cut them:

I used the rectangle die from the ATC Tag Builder once for the body of the camera and again to cut the silver layer but this time I used a smaller height. The top of the camera is cut with one of the tag die set top and I used the mug's handle in the Tag O'Coffee set to cut the viewfinder with 2 passes of the die. To that I added 2 circles, one smaller than the other, to make the "lens", popping up the smaller one on foam pads after applying Liquid Glass.

Note that, as Maureen did, I cut my base on a folded piece of card so it would stand on its own as a gift tag holder or simply a small card.

Another view showing the dimensional lens:

And for fun I tried my own die-cut recipe for a boat... naïve but still recognisable:

See the shapes and the dies I used at each step (I didn't use the "steam" in the end):

For finishing touches I rounded off the sides of the boat with scissors, added a colored stripe and used foam pads to lift the boat off the cabin. The background is Distress Inks with clouds made with Gesso and the Clouds stencil.

I think it was a good exercise in thinking out of the box, something I should do more often! I hope you will try it too, with any sets you have.

Come back in 4 weeks for my next Throwback Thursday!
