Hi, everybody! Today I completely left my comfort zone. I had this idea swirling 'round in my head and it didn't want to go away. All I could think of was 'writing home for Christmas', I guess, I just had to get on with it :-) The outcome is this vintage-inspired collage type card:
I used the following sets: Joyful, VIGNETTE: Christmas Block, Oh, Christmas Tree!, and VIGNETTE: Old Type. The sentiments of the Joyful set with their old typewriter style font gave me the idea.
I started off embossing a piece of cardstock with a notepad pattern on which I then stamped some of the sentiments before tearing a piece off. I stamped and fussy cut the typewriter, created a mask for my Christmas tree, and die-cut the postage shape in preparation for the video.
I then stamped the Christmas tree in olive green and slightly coloured it in a lighter green to give it more body before masking it off, stenciling the stars in pale blue, and stamping the sentiment block in old rose pigment ink. I then highlighted the lines and blended the edges of my embossed notepaper before running it through my Big Shot to create the subtle embossed look. I did this originally after the video was filmed as I found the piece of embossed cardstock too chunky to go with the pastel look and the very detailed typewriter.
TIP! It sometimes is good to take a step back and then look at the project with fresh eyes a few minutes later. Making a cup of tea or coffee is always a good idea.
The postage stamp was very quick to make, simply stamp the small tree into the middle, add a touch of light green before blending the edges with Tea Dye and doodling a border. The sentiment is stamped and the edges blended with red, everything layered as seen and embellished using some punched stars, snowflake, gems and a touch of glitter glue.
Here is my usual craft-along video:
It was a sort of around this time when I realized that the song actually talks about driving home for Christmas. Well, those of us who don't drive, write...
Have a lovely week!
