Hey, everyone! Twenty-three days until Christmas! Are you done with your Christmas cards? Yes? No? No? Okay well, today I'm sharing a tutorial for making quick and easy mixed media Christmas cards. Here's hoping it will inspire you to get your own cards done in time ;o) I used two of our stamp sets: Holiday Sketches: Christmas Flower and Joyful. Here are the cards:
In addition to the stamps, I used Distress paints, Distress inks, archival ink, PanPastel Colors, Japanese watercolor brush pens, washi tape, drywall tape, buttons, and jute twine.
STEP 1
I made 4 tags out of 160# white cardstock that's 4.25" wide and 11" tall. Each tag is 2.75" wide by 4.25" tall.
STEP 2
I used Distress paints (festive berries, mowed lawn, and mustard seed) to create the stripes on the tags. I quickly dragged the paints from the top of the tag to the bottom. I wanted a distress look so I wasn't really careful about how much (or less) paint there was coming out of the dauber.
STEP 3
On acrylic blocks, I smooshed fired brick and peeled paint Distress inks and spritzed some water. Then with a paint brush, I added some spatters on the tags.
STEP 4
I cut up some drywall tape and adhered to my tags. I placed them where I planned on putting the poinsettias. Then I lightly applied PanPastels (permanent red and black) just to give the tape a little bit of color.
STEP 5
With red and green Japanese watercolor brush pens, I painted a border around the tags.
STEP 6
On pre-cut diecuts, I stamped the poinsettia with VersaMagic red magic chalk ink.
STEP 7
I added washi tape over the drywall tape before adhering the poinsettias, stamped the sentiments in jet black archival ink, and distressed the edges of the tag by sponging black soot Distress ink.
STEP 8
On my card base, I randomly dabbed Distress paints on opposite corners and let it dry for a few minutes before adhering the tag. I used washi tape for my ribbon and topped it with a button with jute twine threaded through. And it's done!
Here are the other 3 cards:
Thanks for stopping by! See you tomorrow for another project :o)
