{Spotlight Project} Shirley Defaces a Dictionary

Hi, peeps! I've never been comfortable with the idea of tearing pages out of a book for mixed media projects, on the basis that if I liked the book, I'll read it again so I don't want any pages missing, and if I didn't like the book I wouldn't want any part of it on my lovely artwork! So my compromise is to use a dictionary.

Not many pictures for you today, because I forgot to take some in the early stages. But you'll get the idea. I stamped the large tree from the HousesExtras set onto a dictionary page which I'd painted with gesso, then masked the trees and stamped the houses and the road markings.

I used Acquarelle Neocolour II crayons to colour the images, then blended them with water. The colours are opaque and painting over the stamped image softens the black ink, but that was the effect that I wanted.

I added a darker green around the trees to make them stand out a bit more, then mounted the panel onto white card and framed it with brickwork washi tape.

Finally, I made a plaque from the STAMP Club February 2015 set, Blossom Overture.

Products Shirley used in today's project:

  2. Whos, defacing a dictionary seems to have some major advantages. Great color with those crayons. Looks like a neighborhood I'd want to live in. Beautiful.

  11. That is an eye-catching title. I saved an old thesaurus that was falling apart for use in crafting..

  16. Wonderful scene - fab colours and really like the brick border. I use book pages from old novels that are falling to pieces and won't take another reading. I don't feel guilty then. I have an old dictionary too xxx
