Today I'm pairing heat embossing with acrylic paints. So why do embossing and paint work well together? Well you can wipe the paint off the embossed areas pretty easily, but still have the texture and opaqueness of paint on your project.
Here's my card.
STEP 1
I gathered my supplies - the stamp with tiny grungy dots from Mixed Media Grunge, Versamark, and clear embossing powder. I stamped the dots where I was going to stamp my "K" to emboss so that they would show through the "K".
STEP 2
I stamped the "K" on top of the dots and heat embossed it clear.
STEP 3
Then I painted over the "K" with acrylic paint.
STEP 4
And using a damp cotton swab I removed the paint from the clear embossed area.
STEP 5
I stamped the dots as well as some blooms from Frames and Flowers on my cardbase. Used sweet pastel colors since this was to be a card to welcome baby.
STEP 6
Then I die cut my focal panel with a Stitched Rectangle die, wrapped a bit of baker's' twine around it and adhered it to the card base. A couple heart beads completed the embellishments. Love that shiny, somewhat leathery look you get from the paint.
And hoping that my card has made its way to the recipient by now, here it is once again, nice and large for you.
Hope you enjoyed today's card. How about giving "emboss resist" a try one of these days?
TschĂĽss,
Maria

What a great tutorial, thank you for the inspiration and explaining how you did this...new technique to me. Loving the colours and layout of this gorgeous card x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. Working with paint, you don't want to let it dry too long before cleaning up your heat embossing. But a dampened swab usually does the trick just fine.
DeleteIt's never occurred to me that you could use paint for an emboss-resist. Wow, you really do learn something every day.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cheerful card; love the sweet flowers peeking around from behind the main panel.
Very pretty card - many congratulations to the new parents. I've never used paint before for the emboss resist technique but will certainly be trying it out in future - thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great card. I love the yellow and soft green leaves peeking out.I am going to do this for my sisters wedding card next year. How fun to get a card with her new last name initial. It will have to be a J though!
