{Spotlight Project} Becca Tones Down Bright Patterned Paper

I don't know about you but I have a giant stack of patterned paper scraps left over from previous makes and I'm on a mission to make that stack dwindle.

Sometimes I'll come across a piece of patterned paper that I love, but is just a little too bright to stamp anything over it. I came across this bright, funky pattern and really wanted to showcase it.

One of the ways to tone down this type of paper but still make it pop is by doing a simple overlay of vellum.

For this card, I embossed a sentiment I created using the Sketchy Alphabet set onto a sheet of heavy weight vellum. This type of vellum is thicker so you can emboss on it without fear of it curling under the heat.

I embossed it in gold and then I added a little bit of visual interest by using a gold Pitt artist pen to make little dots around the outside edges.

I added some simple twine and a little button to finish the look off.

It's sweet and simple which is great because - speaking of things that are dwindling - my thank you stash is getting pret-teeee low.

  6. Such an effective idea and liking the idea that the thicker vellum doesn't warp with heat. Thank you for the inspiration x

  11. Marsha, for this I used Beacon 3-in-1 craft glue and put little dots on each corner. It's a strong adhesive so I only needed tiny dots. Since this is a heavier weight vellum it doesn't show glue stains as much. For lighter weight vellum, if you use a glue stick instead of traditional glue then it will dry clear and not result in unsightly smudging.

  16. Vellum makes everything perfect in my book. Love the ethereal quality it can add as it did on your card. Love your sentiment, as well. Can't have too many thank you card...unless you're really an ungrateful person...which we aren't.
