Hi, Cornelia here today, adding a 3D effect to letters.

I learned how to do this from Betsy Veldman, who showed us how to do this on one of the Make it Monday features by Papertrey a while back and lately I have been thinking about doing this again. Betsy did this with a die cut sentiment, but I show you how do do this with stamping only. It works either way.

I decided to keep a simple color scheme, although I was tempted to add some color to the HAPPY in the end. But I did not want to ruin my card....so I restrained myself.

Big Greetings, The Birds and the Blooms

I stamped the HAPPY at an angle onto my card stock. I secured the card with Washi tape - just to make sure it does not slip by accident.

Then I started to draw the lines with a Copic marker - I used N6. You start at the left bottom of each letter and draw the lines parallel to each other, using each letter corner as a starting point. Once you have done this you go back and draw lines from the right upper corner of each letter - or you do this together, just as I did. If you have a more complex word its easier to do the bottom first and then do the top.

Once you drew all those lines you take the fat end of the marker (I think its called the chisel tip) and fill in some of those lines - I used the inner part of the letters, to give this a shadow effect.

Then you take a lighter marker - I used N2 to color in the rest.

You see I smudged the second lighter line....no reason to worry - I am going to cover this up. I ain't no Laura Bassen, who would start all over again... I just hide this under something ;)

If you are wondering what's different between this photo and the one above - I drew a fat line around the bottom of the letters with my N6 marker. And then I adorned my card with that pretty Cardinal and two enamel dots. The smudge is hidden by the "birthday".
