Hello, crafty Friends! We all know that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Today I thought I'd let you in on one of my crafting lemonade secrets.
When I got down to creating today's project, all I could think of were lemons and how zesty and refreshing they can be. The idea for my card was born.
I decided to make a one layer card with splashing and splattering using some ready to use Liquarel watercolours cyan and lemon yellow. I chose to work with sturdy card stock rather than watercolour one.
I also got out my Gone Postal and Noteworthy stamp sets, black Archival ink and a brush.
Stamp the lemons from the Gone Postal set into the bottom right hand corner using the black Archival ink.
Dilute the yellow, mix up some green and colour the lemons.
Colour around the lemons and add splatters into the still damp colour for them to bleed and after drying for them to stay crisp.
Stamp the sentiment in black Archival and allow to dry. As you can see, the card stock did buckle a little, and as a one layer card, I couldn't stick it on another piece of card to help it straighten out. This is where my secret comes in.
I decided to put my card face down on a sheet of paper onto a heat resistant surface, my wooden board, and do some ironing. The heat makes the fibers more flexible, and they should straighten out left overnight weighted down with some acrylic blocks. That was my theory, and it worked. There is just a slight flick left, the card is flatter and straighter than it would have been without ironing.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your VIBRANT colours and EXCITING splatters, REALLY appreciate your CLEVER tip too ... although I dislike using my iron, I think I will start loving it if it helps me with the dreaded "curl" ... I have had to cut and mat so many cards to address it!!!
THANK YOU for sharing :)
Tracy, I felt the same until I got myself a little travel iron, which does the job perfectly. :-)
