I like exploring different art styles, and I've been quite taken by the naïve style lately. This style generally ignores perspective, uses bold colour, and maintains detail whether it's in the foreground or background. So I thought I'd make an Artist Trading Card (ATC) using this style.
I started off by stamping some images using the
Gone Postal set and the
Houses Extras set, with only vague idea of how this was going to develop! I knew I was going to create hills and a coast/skyline so I started by colouring in the fields.
I drew some clouds then coloured in the sky around them.
Then added some Weathered Wood for shadow on the lighthouse and mailbox, and defined the edges of the fields with the fine nib of the markers.
and finally coloured in the foliage.
Here's another look at the ATC. There are plenty of examples of naïve art on Pinterest if you fancy having a go at this style yourself.
Remember, if you try out any of the techniques from our Spotlight posts and add your project to our
Spotlight Project Showcase you have a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).
PS: Don't forget to join in on some coloring fun we're hosting here to celebrate National Coloring Book Day and download your free
Color Blooms page sampler here. It's available until Sunday, August 7 :o)
Shirley, I love this and that mailbox in front with the letter in it rocks!
