{Spotlight Project} Shirley Plays with Artsy Tribal Doodles Set

Have you seen the latest stamp club set, Artsy Tribal Doodles? Houses, that's what I saw. Chunky buildings with triangular roofs. Trees. Sunshine.

So I thought I'd make a new home card.  I couldn't decide whether to use coloured ink on the images, or whether to stamp the images in black and create a scenic background, so I did both!

I started off by inking the images with Distress Ink, spritzing lightly and stamping onto my card panel.

Then I combined two of the stamps for sunshine, used the dashed line triangles for trees and drew in tree trunks with Mowed Lawn Distress Marker. I also scribbled a grassy line, but I didn't like the effect, so I overstamped it with one of the Mixed Media Elements stamps and filled in any gaps with the marker. If you look closely you can make out some of the scribbles. The sentiment is from Sentiment Builders Christmas.

For my next trick, I created a scenic background with Distress Crayons before stamping the images in black.

Almost forgot to take a photo of the background!

I drew in the tree trunks with a fineliner pen. I almost drew dotted lines along the hills but then I thought they might make the whole scene look too busy. I trimmed both cards down and matted them onto some cork-style card that I found in my stash.

Remember, if you try out any of the techniques from our Spotlight posts and add your project to our Spotlight Project Showcase you have a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).
