{Spotlight Project } Becca Goes Graphic for the Holidays

There's nothing that I love more than a good red and green vintagey Christmas card. I love making them because they remind me of traditional, homey holiday comforts.

But this is not that card.

No ma'ams and sirs. This card is bold, graphic, nontraditional and grabs Santa by his shoulders and gives him a good shake.

First up, I created a background using some Distress Spray Stains and watercolor paper. I spritzed the sprays onto my craft mat and dipped my paper into it.

Originally, I wasn't thinking these colors would turn out Christmas-esque (it was meant to be an art & splattery card) but once I saw how the colors blended I immediately brought out my Joyful set and got to work.

I stamped the wreath in black and gave it a good fussy cuttin' snippity snip.

I stamped a grungy notebook element from the Mixed Media Grunge set and punched out the notebook holes to give it a more authentic feel.

I used the "joyful" sentiment from the same-named stamp set and repeatedly stamped it across the base of my card to create a pattern.

I grunged up the edges of my colorful inky paper with a stamp from the Mixed Media Grunge set to tie it into the black and white.

And then I put it all together!

As you can see, I added the Peace, Love, & Joy CUTplorations die along with some printed vellum and washi tape. I also glued on little red embellies to my wreath.

I'd love to see your nontraditional Christmas cards! If something in this tutorial inspired you to try a new technique or design, be sure to link it up to our Spotlight Gallery for your chance to win some STAMPswag.
