Good afternoon crafty friends, Amy here with a fun little bookmark using the smooshing technique. I'm an avid reader and tend to wear out my bookmark and tags, so I decided to make a fun lil' bookmark that I could laminate and it will hold up better in my book travels. ;o)
I hope you'll follow along and enjoy the process...the smooshing is a lot of fun and super easy!
Start with a tag cut from watercolor paper and add some Distress Ink in your choice to some acetate, I went with Mermaid Lagoon and then used Walnut Stain. Spritz your Distress Ink with water using a mister and smoosh your tag by swiping it across the ink. Repeat with layers and colors until the desired color and design is achieved- just be sure to dry your tag in between colors so they don't get muddy.
Then stamp the circle border and splatter stamps from the ART MARKS set using the Vintage Photo and Broken China Distress Inks- shades lighter then what you used in step 1- for added texture in our background. I then stamped the word READ from alpha letters in Rich Cocoa Memento Ink and the Sentiment "Be Free" from the Trendy Birds 2 set in Bahama Blue Memento Ink. Then apply the Mermaid Lagoon and Walnut Stain Distress Inks thru the Some Birds ARTplorations Stencil to create my focal point.
Heat up your laminator and slip your tag into the laminator sleeve. This is where it's important you don't have any texture or dimension on your tag.
Once your tag is cool, trim around the edge, just be sure to leave a border so your lamination doesn't peel. Use a hole punch to punch your circle. Grab some seam binding ribbon, wet it with your mister then apply color sprays of your choice, I went with Lindy's Stamp Gang Teal Starurst and Brown Shadow Mist here to match my tag colors.
Voila you now have a fun and durable bookmark. :o)
Hope you were inspired to get crafty and try the smooshing technique. Have a lovely day.
Hugs,
Amy
