Hi peeps! I've got a new layered stamp out - Layered Butterflies - and I wanted to show you what I've been doing with it, and what you could do with it.
It all started last year when I painted this card from scratch, and doodled some butterflies on it with black pen. Hmm, I thought, that would make a nice stamp set ;)
So Layered Butterflies was born. Today I'm going to concentrate on the smaller butterfly stamps. There's an outline stamp, a solid wings stamp and a highlight wings stamp that all co-ordinate. Next week I'll concentrate on the larger butterfly stamps, and the week after I'll break a few rules with the set, and there'll be a giveaway, so stay tuned.
My first card is an homage to that painted card. I stamped the butterfly outlines on mixed media card then picked up some Distress Re-inker with a broad water brush and sloshed it on the wings. Using what was left on the brush I painted in the background, and once it was dry I added the sentiment and mounted the panel onto my card.
Using the same technique I stamped and coloured a single butterfly then added some stencilling, washi tape and a die cut.
Here I've stamped the outline, then inked the large solid wings with Distress Ink, stamped those then inked the smaller solid wings with two different colours and stamped those. Don't forget, these layered stamps are not designed to align perfectly, they are meant to overlap so that you get the sloshy artsy look the easy way.
You can just use the outline stamp on its own on a patterned or coloured background. I had this Distress Oxide background in my stash, so I stamped the outline images on it, then just went round the wings with a grey Tombow pen.
Don't forget to pop back next week for a look at the larger butterfly stamps. If you can't wait to own my Layered Butterflies set, it's already in the store ahead of the launch, and if you use my code STAMPGIRLSHIRLEY you'll get 20% off.
