{Mixed Media Tutorial} A Floral Double Tag by MariLynn

Happy May. May makes me think of flowers. So I am going to share a double tag that not only has stenciled flowers but a 3-dimensional flower.

I started with white cardstock and 3 washable markers (2 blues and 1 turquoise) and ARTplorations : FLOWERS 2 Stencil.

I took the darker of the 2 blue markers and I colored on the stencil. I sprayed the stencil with water and placed the white cardstock on top of the stencil.

 Doesn't this look cool just like this? I think so but I had a different idea in my mind.

 I used the lighter blue marker and I colored on the stencil, and again I sprayed it with water and put the first piece of already colored blue flowers on white cardstock on top of the stencil.

 I did it a third time with the turquoise marker.

I think the finished product looks like an impressionistic painting.

I stamped on a piece of white cardstock  and on the cut out tag using the

STAMPlorations Blooming Buds Stamp Set

I colored one of the flowers and fussy cut it out and glued it on the tag.

I punched out some white cardstock circles to build a tower so that there could be dimension on my flower. I ended up cutting the circles in half. I glued about 5 or 6 half circles to make the tower.

 I colored and fussy cut a second flower. I cut just the petals at the top. Then I glued that flower over the tower of half circles. It makes kind of a pocket.

I also cut another flower but only used the bottom petals. I put glue only on the ends and used a paint brush underneath to make these petals curl.

 When I removed the paintbrush it makes another pocket.

 I filled the second pocket with Aleene's tacky glue making sure that I quickly did the next step so that it didn't drip out of the pocket.

 I used my heat gun to burn the glue. When you hit tacky glue with the heat gun it bubbles up and changes consistency. This photo below was after the glue had cooled ,but while I was still heating the glue it made a bubbling tower that was almost 2 inches high.When I stopped heating it, it shrank down resulting in the photo below.

 I color the burned glue with a black sharpie marker. I think it makes it look like a raisin. I love to use this technique for the centers of flowers.

 I cut a piece of burlap and another tag. and adhered the two tags with the twine, sandwiching the burlap between the 2 tags.

I could have stopped there, but I wanted to add a butterfly to celebrate

 

I used the STAMPlorations Butterfly Row -Artsy Borders Stamp

At first I couldn't decide if I wanted to use a whole butterfly or make it a half butterfly so I stamped 3.

 I colored with pink and yellow.

 Then I colored with orange. I then fussy cut them out.

I ended up just using the whole butterfly. To make the antennae I cut a thin black piece of cardstock and glued it to the back of the butterfly before gluing to the tag.
