Howdy STAMPlorations friends! Once again today I'm keeping it rainbow. And CAS. But this time using colored pencils, Prismacolor pencils specifically, to add color to dark gray cardstock. Here is my project.
STEP 1
Gathered my supplies - Sparkly stamp set, dark gray cardbase, pearl embossing powder and Prismacolor pencils.
STEP 2
Not wanting to be so predictable and create a randomly stamped BG of jewels ;), I was noticing that the placement of the stamps on the acetate would actually make a nice CAS layout for me to color. When I get a new stamp set I always ink up the entire sheet and stamp the reverse of the packaging so that I know where to place the stamps after I've pulled them off to use AND to identify which one is missing if I lose one!
So I put the stamped packaging sheet into my MISTI, placed the jewel stamps accordingly and picked them up. Centered the sentiment in their midst.
STEP 3
Blotted with my anti-static pad, stamped with Versamark, sprinkled on the pearl embossing powder, heat set and then used a Swiffer sheet to clean up the anti-static powder when it was cooled down.
STEP 4
With 36 pencils, my set is somewhat limited. I was thinking jewel tones and then decided to just go with a rainbow since I had five jewels to color. Selected three tones of each color.
STEP 5
Now if I were you, at this point I'd be screaming at my PC "why didn't she do a video?". I know it's a lot easier to get the hang of coloring when you watch a video. But a) I don't know how to make a video and edit blah blah and b) I'm not that good at coloring to really help you. So all you get are photos to share my process ;) I can recommend this video though, if you want to watch a pro.
I should mention I fantasy colored. Didn't try for realistic. Applied one coat of the lightest color around the outside. The darkest color in the center. The middle color to fill in. Then repeat all the steps. The last photo shows the final result after two (or three) layers.
STEP 6
Here are the end results of the same process for the other "flat" jewels.
STEP 7
I fantasy colored the side view gems going lighter from top to bottom. Applied one coat of the lightest color at the base. The darkest color on top. The middle color to fill in. Then repeat all the steps. The end result for the blue and yellow gems you can see in the last photo.
STEP 8
And then, because, well, they are jewels, I topped them all with a good coat of sparkly Rock Candy Stickles! And swiped some Versamark along the bottom edge and heat embossed it too.
I'm so proud of myself... before I pulled the stamps off my MISTI I heard Jennifer M. in my ear - "make multiples". So I stamped the layout again with black ink on white cardstock and gave the jewels a light watercoloring with my Zigs. And then some sparkle with some Smooch.
