{Spotlight Project} Maria Uses Up Scraps

Hello there STAMP friends! Time for my first Spotlight post of 2020 and today it's about using your paper scraps - even if it barely makes a dent ;) You know all those cards you're seeing in the cardmaking world with strips of cardstock? That's what I did. Rainbow, cuz who doesn't love a rainbow? And I especially love 'em when they're paired with black and white.

I was going to have a twofer for you, but it turned into a threefer. Read on to see what happened.

This is one of the three.

STEP 1

Gather supplies - I grabbed a shaped die to use to adhere the strips to, Succulently, and a die to cut from the shape that was long and fairly skinny in order to show off the colored strips of  paper, Feathery.  I also pulled out the matching stamp sets since I knew I'd need sentiments. And a paper trimmer.

This, BTW, is how I store my CS scraps. There's a drawer for each color family.

STEP 2

I sliced all my scraps into 1/4" strips.

STEP 3

Then I traced around the die onto a piece of scrap CS and applied adhesive all over the traced area so my colored strips would be sure to stick.

STEP 4

Starting near the middle of the shape, I adhered the yellow strips and then worked my way up and down the shape to create the rainbow.

STEP 5

I burnished the strips using my fingers. Flipped the piece over and burnished again, but your die cutting machine will really press the papers down in the next step.

STEP 6

So this was when my twofer became a threefer. If I had used the original shape I had in mind from Succulently I would have had wasted rainbow :(  So I opted for a tag shape from Manila Tags which would still accommodate the smaller feather and squeezed a second feather next to the tag shape!

STEP 7

I then created a card for each die cut.

TIP!: Use your MISTI to play around with your layout. Arrange the die cut and sentiment stamps on your cardbase in your MISTI. When you have a layout you like you can remove the die cut, pick up your stamps on the MISTI door and stamp away.

The last step was to add sentiments to the cardbases and adhere the die cuts. I added dimension to the tag with a layer of craft foam. Added a few sequins here and there too. Hope you enjoyed my rainbows. Maybe I'd use up all my scraps if I made another 59,000 of these ;)
