Paper Goods Showcase | Hello Fall Journaling Cards with Stephanie

I love seeing how our paper goods can take a card in different directions depending on what you pair them with. Today's projects from STAMPgirl Stephanie are a perfect example. She used the same Hello Fall Journaling Cards collection on both cards, but brought in different STAMPlorations products to create two very different autumn designs.

And I especially love that she paired both projects with words from our Simple Expressions collection. The HAPPINESS and COLLECT sentiments add just the right touch of meaning to these colorful fall scenes.

Happiness Is an Inside Job

For her first card, Stephanie used a Hello Fall Journaling Card featuring a colorful fall girl surrounded by flowers and foliage. She framed the journaling card with green cardstock and placed it on a white card base textured with the Circles All Over cover plate die.

The large HAPPINESS sentiment takes center stage beneath the focal image, with the smaller "is an inside job" sentiment completing the thought. I love how the colorful artwork and bold typography work together, while the subtle die-cut texture in the background adds interest without taking attention away from the focal pieces.

Collect Beautiful Moments

Stephanie took a completely different approach with her second card, a mini slimline featuring another Hello Fall Journaling Card. This time, she paired it with the COLLECT sentiment from Simple Expressions and the Henna Pattern slimline stencil.

The journaling card fills the upper portion of the design, while the softly patterned stenciled area below gives the sentiment its own space. The warm autumn colors carry through the entire card, creating a cohesive look while still allowing the COLLECT sentiment to stand out.

One Collection, Two Different Looks

What I love about these two cards is that they show just how versatile a single paper goods collection can be. The Hello Fall Journaling Cards provide beautiful focal imagery, but Stephanie didn't stop there. She combined them with bold typography, subtle die-cut texture, and stenciled pattern to create two cards with very different compositions.

It's also a great example of how words can help shape the feeling of a card. HAPPINESS gives the first card an upbeat, encouraging message, while COLLECT turns the second card into a reminder to gather and appreciate beautiful moments.

Creative Takeaway

When you're working with a beautiful paper goods piece, you don't have to build the entire card around it. Think about what the image needs. A subtle background texture can add interest without competing with the focal point, while a stencil can create a larger visual framework for a sentiment and focal image. And don't overlook the power of a well-chosen sentiment. Paper Goods Showcase | The Parisian Cafe Collage Sheets with Stephanie L.

Sometimes all you need is one good piece of paper to get a card going.

For these two cards, STAMPgirl Stephanie L. put the spotlight on The Parisian Cafe Collage Sheets, showing two different ways to use the same paper. One card came together by using something she already had on hand (the negative from a previous die cut) while the other combines the collage sheet with stenciling and clear stickers for a more layered look.

And I have to say, I love when a piece of paper gets used in a way you might not have thought of at first.

Make the Negative Part of the Design

For her first card, Stephanie used the negative of a die cut from one of her previous cards and glued it to an ivory card base. She then chose a sticker from the All Things Coffee Clear Stickers pack, applied it to ivory cardstock, and trimmed it out with her paper trimmer. She popped the sticker up with foam squares for a little dimension, and that was it.

Sometimes you really don't need to add much more. I love how the intricate die-cut layer lets the collage sheet artwork show through while the coffee sticker and sentiment become the focal point. It's a simple design, but it doesn't feel plain.

Creative takeaway: Before you toss the leftover negative from a die cut, take another look at it. It might be just the piece you need for your next card.

Layer It, Cut It, Mix It

For her second card, Stephanie combined The Parisian Cafe with All Things Coffee Clear Stickers and the Dots 'N Beans Slimline stencil. She started by stenciling the left side of an ivory card base with Distress Oxide inks, then added a piece of red cardstock to the right. She cut the collage sheet above and below the coffee cup and saucer, then fussy cut everything to the left of those cuts before adhering it to the card base. For the sentiment, she placed a sticker on ivory cardstock, die cut it, and popped it up on the upper left of the card.

I really like how the printed artwork, stenciling, cardstock, and dimensional pieces all come together here. There are several different elements, but the coffee image remains the star of the card. And Stephanie mentioned that she went to Paris in March. So I can totally see why The Parisian Cafe was a particularly fun paper collection for her to work with.

Creative takeaway: Don't feel like you have to use a collage sheet as one complete piece. Cut around the parts you want, combine them with stenciling or other layers, and let the printed artwork become part of your own design.

See What You Can Do with Paper Goods

These two cards are a good example of why I love having paper goods in my stash. They give you something to start with, but you can use them in so many different ways. Use a piece as a background. Cut out one part of the artwork. Layer it over cardstock. Add a stencil. Put a clear sticker on top. Or, like Stephanie, take the negative from an entirely different project and find a way to make it work.

Paper Goods Showcase | Pop Art Unicorns Card Fronts with Stephanie

It can be freeing to start a card with artwork that’s already doing most of the work for you. Today, STAMPgirl Stephanie L. shows two very different ways to use our Pop Art Unicorns Card Fronts -- one as a layered background and the other as the star of a clean, simple design.

The bold colors, expressive unicorn artwork, and collage-style details give these card fronts plenty of personality right out of the pack. Stephanie's projects show that you can either build on that artwork with additional layers or simply add a sentiment and let the Card Front shine.

Add Layers for More Dimension

For her first card, Stephanie adhered a card front directly to the card base before adding a slightly smaller piece of vellum over the artwork. She fussy cut the unicorn and flowers from the card front and layered them back over the vellum, creating a dimensional effect while allowing the artwork underneath to remain visible. She finished the card with a sentiment from the Bloomdala Bliss stamp set.

I love how this approach turns a ready-made card front into something that feels much more involved. The vellum creates a subtle separation between the background and the fussy-cut elements, while the repeated artwork gives the card extra depth.

Creative lesson: Don't think of a card front as something you have to use only once or in one piece. Try fussy cutting elements from it, layering them over vellum or another surface, and creating dimension with artwork that's already beautifully coordinated.

Keep It Simple and Let the Artwork Shine

For her second card, Stephanie took the opposite approach and let the card front do almost all the work. She simply mounted the card front onto a bright pink card base and added the Simple Expressions: LEAP sentiment. She stamped the sentiment in VersaFine Onyx Black ink, heat embossed it with clear embossing powder, and then colored the letters with a Copic marker. The result is bold, colorful, and wonderfully graphic without needing much else.

Sometimes a beautiful card front really doesn't need much embellishment. A strong sentiment and a little color coordination can be all it takes to turn it into a finished card.

Creative lesson: When your card front already has a strong focal point, resist the urge to add more. Choose a sentiment that complements the artwork, pull a color from the design, and let the paper goods do the heavy lifting.

Paper Goods Showcase | Old Letters Pocket Backdrops with Stephanie

Today we're taking another look at how versatile our paper goods can be with two beautiful cards from STAMPgirl Stephanie L., both featuring the Old Letters Pocket Backdrops.

The vintage handwriting and softly distressed details in this pack make it wonderful for backgrounds and layering, but Stephanie shows that you don't have to use a Pocket Backdrop exactly as it comes. Cutting it apart or allowing just portions of the design to peek through can give the same paper an entirely different role on a card.

Cut It Apart

For her first card, Stephanie cut the Old Letters Pocket Backdrop into three long panels and matted each one with berry cardstock. Arranged side by side on kraft, those narrow strips turn the printed paper into a strong graphic background while still allowing us to see the flowers and vintage handwriting running through the design.

She added a butterfly from Trendy Butterflies 2, embossed in rose gold on vellum, along with a die-cut "hello". The vellum band across the card softens the patterned background just enough and gives the butterfly and sentiment their own space.

Creative lesson: Try cutting your paper goods into strips, squares, or other shapes instead of always using them as a complete panel. You can completely change the look of a design while still letting the original artwork show through.

Let It Peek Through

Stephanie took a much simpler approach on her second card, using the Old Letters Pocket Backdrop as a background layer behind a soft blush panel. This time, only the outer portions of the Pocket Backdrop are visible, creating a lovely frame of florals and handwritten script. A delicate vellum butterfly cut with the Flutter Zen 1 Layering Dies becomes the focal point, while a sentiment from the Bloomdala Bliss stamp set finishes the clean, elegant design.

I especially like how the vellum butterfly allows hints of the background underneath to remain visible. It's a beautiful way to add another layer without covering up all that lovely detail.

Creative lesson: You don't have to show an entire patterned paper for it to make an impact. Letting portions peek out around a simpler layer can add color, texture, and interest without making the card feel busy.

two cards, one collection | Stephanie showcases Vintage Roses Card Fronts

Some paper goods make cardmaking feel almost effortless. When the artwork is strong enough to stand on its own, it doesn't take much to transform it into a finished handmade card.

That's exactly what STAMPgirl Stephanie is sharing today with two elegant cards featuring our Vintage Roses Card Fronts. While both cards begin with the same product, each one takes a completely different approach, proving just how versatile a beautifully designed card front can be.

For her first card, Stephanie softened the already dreamy floral artwork by lightly stenciling Abstract April Showers over the card front. The subtle layer mutes the colors ever so slightly, creating an ethereal, almost vintage-washed effect that feels beautifully cohesive. She finished the design with a sentiment from the retired Typografia – Encouragement stamp set (now available as clear stickers), heat embossed in white so it stands out without distracting from the background.

What I love most about this card is the reminder that stencils don't always have to create bold patterns. Used with a light touch, they can become a way to soften, unify, and completely change the mood of an already beautiful background.

Her second card takes a much cleaner, more dimensional approach. Stephanie simply matted the Vintage Roses Card Front onto a dark cardstock panel, added a banner with a Floral Magic clear sticker sentiment, and adhered everything to a white card base.

The raised sentiment banner adds just enough dimension to elevate the design while allowing the gorgeous rose artwork to remain the focal point. It's elegant, polished, and surprisingly easy to recreate.

This card is also a wonderful example of how "simple" doesn't have to mean "plain." Sometimes all a design needs is a narrow mat, one dimensional focal element, and plenty of breathing room for the artwork to do what it was designed to do.

Creative Takeaway

Stephanie's two cards begin with the exact same product, yet they feel completely different. One teaches us that subtle techniques can dramatically change the atmosphere of a design without hiding the original artwork. The other reminds us that we don't always need additional embellishments or complicated layouts to create an elegant card.

Stephanie took a completely different approach with her second card. Once again, she began with a Touch of Spring Card Front, but this time she let the vibrant butterfly artwork become the focal point. To frame the butterfly, she cleverly used snippet circles, proving that leftover die-cut pieces can become beautiful design elements instead of ending up in the scrap bin. The With Sympathy Phrase Die adds a clean, heartfelt sentiment that completes the card without distracting from the striking background.

One of my favorite things about our paper goods is how they can become either the supporting element or the star of a card. Sometimes all they need is a simple sentiment. Other times, they're the perfect backdrop for layers, die cuts, and embellishments. That's exactly what STAMPgirl Stephanie has done with our Blooms & Flutters Card Fronts, creating two cards that each have their own personality while letting the beautiful floral artwork shine.

For her birthday card, Stephanie used one of the card fronts as a colorful frame, adding a torn strip of pale yellow cardstock down the center to create a soft resting place for the sentiment. The layered butterfly is the perfect focal point. I especially love how she combined a smooshed and splattered die cut with vellum and colored cardstock for extra dimension and softness.
