words that matter | BELIEVE + Watercolor ATC with Chris Dring

Some words encourage us to look outward. Others remind us to look inward.

When I designed BELIEVE, I wanted it to be a gentle reminder that confidence doesn't begin with what others think of us -- it begins with recognizing our own worth. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is believe in ourselves before anyone else does.

Today, STAMPgirl Chris pairs BELIEVE with our Watercolor ATCs, creating two thoughtful cards that beautifully reinforce that message.

For her first card, Chris combined one of the Watercolor ATCs with a colorful strip from the Industrial Patchwork Collage Paper collection. She added a die-cut trio of perched birds* atop the softly textured watercolor background, enhanced with the Circles All Over Texture Plate Die. The layered elements create wonderful depth while keeping the design clean and balanced.

I especially like the symbolism of the birds perched together. Paired with the sentiment, Believe in your worth, they quietly suggest encouragement, companionship, and the confidence to keep moving forward.

Her second card takes a softer, more understated approach. Chris die-cut one of the Watercolor ATCs using a Curly Labels/Tags Nesting Die, making it the perfect focal point for the sentiment. Behind it, she created a kraft panel stenciled with Christmas Tree #1, then framed everything with stitched layering before mounting it onto the card base.

Although the stencil was originally designed as a Christmas pattern, the repeating trees become a simple geometric background here -- proof that many crafting supplies can be used far beyond their intended season.

Creative Takeaway

One of my favorite things about paper crafting is discovering unexpected ways to use the supplies already in our collection. For example, a holiday stencil can become an everyday background. Or an ATC can become a sentiment panel. And a collage paper strip can add just the right amount of color and texture without overwhelming a design.

Chris' cards are wonderful reminders that creativity often comes from looking at familiar products in new ways. When we stop thinking about what a product was designed for and start thinking about what it could become, our creative possibilities grow dramatically.

wall art inspiration | Walter's urban mural collage

One of my favorite things about Walter's projects is that he rarely uses paper goods the way you might expect. Instead of treating them as individual elements, he layers and combines them into something entirely new.

For today's project, Walter transformed four Paper Goods VIP Subscription selections into an eye-catching mixed media collage inspired by urban wall murals. It's the kind of artwork that looks as though it belongs on the side of a brick building, where layers of paint, posters, and street art tell their own story.

Building an Urban Wall Mural

Walter selected these August Paper Goods VIP Subscription products:

He began by fussy-cutting elements from each collection and arranging them into a collage on an A2-sized cardstock panel. After adhering everything with collage paste, he embossed the entire panel using a brick embossing folder, instantly transforming the collage into a textured brick wall.

To finish the piece, Walter blended Distress Inks (Lost Shadow, Hickory Smoke, Weathered Wood, and Antique Linen), added white paint splatter, and sealed everything with a layer of collage medium. The result is wonderfully textured and convincingly resembles a weathered mural painted directly onto an old brick wall.

Whimsical Homes Take Flight | More Creative Ideas with Craftyfield

One of the things I enjoy most about featuring our STAMPgirls is seeing how they interpret the same products in completely different ways. In Sunday's post, STAMPgirl Craftyfield showed us how the Whimsical Homes ATC Pack could become the focal point of beautifully layered cards. Today, she's back with two more creative ideas -- one whimsical and one interactive -- that show just how versatile these little homes can be.

As the card opens, the design flips to reveal another charming home, giving the recipient a delightful interactive surprise. It's a clever reminder that ATCs aren't limited to single-panel cards—they can easily become the centerpiece of fun folds and interactive designs.

Perfect Pairs in Action | Party & Wishes in 20 Minutes (No Ink Pad Hunt Required!)

Sometimes I have a full afternoon to spend in my craft room. Other times, I have 20 minutes between packaging orders, designing new products, or tackling the never-ending pile of things on my worktable. These four cards are my latest projects featuring Perfect Pairs: Party & Wishes.

And yes...this time I actually knew where my ink pads were :o)

If you read the first Perfect Pairs post, you know the cards themselves took less than fifteen minutes to make -- but I spent nearly as much time searching through my messy worktable for ink pads. This round, I had cleaned up just enough to find everything, so four cards came together in about twenty minutes from start to finish.

Turns out a tidy workspace really does buy you extra creative time :o)

The 15-Minute Challenge

One of my goals with every Perfect Pairs collection is to prove that beautiful handmade cards don't have to be complicated. These four cards all use the exact same collection, yet each one has its own personality.

For my first card, I kept things clean and airy with the colorful birthday candles taking center stage. A few impressions of the coordinating background stamp along one side add just enough interest while letting all that white space keep the design fresh and modern.

My second card is bright, playful, and full of celebration. The repeated Celebrate Big background becomes a colorful pattern that perfectly complements the oversized watercolor balloon bouquet. It's cheerful, energetic, and ready for any celebration.

For the third card, I paired the oversized cupcake with a simple yellow banner featuring the sentiment. The colorful frosting becomes the star of the card while the background stamping quietly adds texture without competing for attention. It's probably the boldest card in the set while still keeping a clean, graphic look.

The final card might be the simplest of all. A background created entirely with the coordinating sentiment stamp becomes patterned paper, while the row of watercolor party hats adds just the right amount of dimension and color. It's amazing how much impact a few well-placed elements can have.

One thing I noticed while making these cards is that I never felt the need to reach for extra embellishments. No ribbon. No sequins. No enamel dots. The coordinating ephemera and stamps already do the heavy lifting.

Even though every card uses the same products, each one has its own style and personality -- from clean and modern to playful and graphic. When I designed this Simple Expressions set, I wasn't thinking about bright lights or bold colors. I was thinking about the kind of glow that comes from within: kindness, hope, faith, joy, and the quiet confidence that shines through the way we live our lives.

By placing the sentiment across the lower portion of the artwork, she creates a clean, balanced design that lets both the image and the message share the spotlight. It's a wonderful reminder that sometimes the smallest detail can reinforce the biggest idea.

A scattering of bright orange sequins echoes the warm tones of the bird and brings just enough sparkle and movement to the design. quick cards, cohesive results | Perfect Pairs: Blooms & Sunshine

One of the reasons I created the Perfect Pairs collection was to make creating easier. I juggle so many hats and often, I find myself wishing I had a little bit of time to actually do more creating out of the products I've designed.

We all have those moments when we want to spend a little time making something beautiful but don't have hours to design a card from scratch. Coordinating products, choosing colors, and figuring out what works together can sometimes take longer than making the project itself.

That's exactly what STAMPgirl Stephanie is sharing today with two elegant cards featuring our Vintage Roses Card Fronts. While both cards begin with the same product, each one takes a completely different approach, proving just how versatile a beautifully designed card front can be.

For her first card, Stephanie softened the already dreamy floral artwork by lightly stenciling Abstract April Showers over the card front. The raised sentiment banner adds just enough dimension to elevate the design while allowing the gorgeous rose artwork to remain the focal point. It's elegant, polished, and surprisingly easy to recreate.

This card is also a wonderful example of how "simple" doesn't have to mean "plain." Sometimes all a design needs is a narrow mat, one dimensional focal element, and plenty of breathing room for the artwork to do what it was designed to do.

For these four cards, I reached for four different Simple Expressions stamp sets -- COLLECT, BLOOM, SHINE, and FOCUS -- and paired each one with a different design from our Spring Florals A2 Card Fronts collection.

At first glance, they may look like simple cards. But they're also a reminder that sometimes the smallest design choices can make the biggest difference.

One of the things I wanted to experiment with was color harmony. 

Instead of stamping each featured word in black, I matched the solid word to one of the dominant colors already found in each floral background. That simple change helps the sentiment feel like it belongs to the artwork instead of sitting on top of it.

To add a little extra interest, I stamped subtle text from Art Marks #3 along with a coordinating paint splatter from our upcoming Perfect Pairs: Blooms & Sunshine release. Both were stamped in colors that echoed the watercolor florals, creating texture without taking attention away from the focal sentiment.

The best part? These four cards came together in about fifteen minutes. There was no complicated layering. No intricate die cutting. No elaborate embellishing. Just beautiful paper goods, meaningful words, and a few carefully chosen details working together.

One of my favorite things about the Simple Expressions collection is how naturally it pairs with our paper goods. The watercolor florals provide the color and movement. The subtle background stamping adds depth. And the featured word becomes the artwork itself. 

It's clean.

It's artsy.

And it creates cards that feel polished while taking very little time to make.

Creative Takeaway

One of the easiest ways to create cards that feel polished and thoughtfully designed is to build around a color story. 

Instead of automatically reaching for black ink, take a moment to study your background. Pull one of the dominant colors from the artwork and use it to stamp your focal word. Then repeat that same color in subtle supporting details, like background texture, paint splatters, or small embellishments.

Those little choices create visual harmony. Rather than competing with the artwork, the sentiment becomes part of it.

You'll also notice that these cards rely on restraint. I didn't add ribbon, gems, or intricate die cuts. The Spring Florals A2 Card Fronts already provide beautiful watercolor artwork, while the subtle text from Art Marks #3 and the coordinating paint splatters add just enough depth without stealing the spotlight. The result is a card that feels artistic, layered, and complete -- even though it comes together in just a few minutes.

Sometimes we think a card needs more to make it special. More embellishments. More layers. More techniques. But often, it's the thoughtful relationship between color, texture, and a meaningful word that creates the biggest impact.
