words that matter | creating harmony with color

Some words encourage us to slow down. Some remind us what's important. And sometimes, the right word paired with the right colors creates a card that feels beautifully balanced without a lot of effort.

For these four cards, I reached for four different Simple Expressions stamp sets -- COLLECT, BLOOM, SHINE, and FOCUS -- and paired each one with a different design from our Spring Florals A2 Card Fronts collection.

At first glance, they may look like simple cards. But they're also a reminder that sometimes the smallest design choices can make the biggest difference.

One of the things I wanted to experiment with was color harmony

Instead of stamping each featured word in black, I matched the solid word to one of the dominant colors already found in each floral background. That simple change helps the sentiment feel like it belongs to the artwork instead of sitting on top of it.

To add a little extra interest, I stamped subtle text from Art Marks #3 along with a coordinating paint splatter from our upcoming Perfect Pairs: Blooms & Sunshine release. Both were stamped in colors that echoed the watercolor florals, creating texture without taking attention away from the focal sentiment.

The best part? These four cards came together in about fifteen minutes. There was no complicated layering. No intricate die cutting. No elaborate embellishing. Just beautiful paper goods, meaningful words, and a few carefully chosen details working together.

One of my favorite things about the Simple Expressions collection is how naturally it pairs with our paper goods. The watercolor florals provide the color and movement. The subtle background stamping adds depth. And the featured word becomes the artwork itself.

It's clean.

It's artsy.

And it creates cards that feel polished while taking very little time to make.

Creative Takeaway

One of the easiest ways to create cards that feel polished and thoughtfully designed is to build around a color story

Instead of automatically reaching for black ink, take a moment to study your background. Pull one of the dominant colors from the artwork and use it to stamp your focal word. Then repeat that same color in subtle supporting details, like background texture, paint splatters, or small embellishments.

Those little choices create visual harmony. Rather than competing with the artwork, the sentiment becomes part of it.

You'll also notice that these cards rely on restraint. I didn't add ribbon, gems, or intricate die cuts. The Spring Florals A2 Card Fronts already provide beautiful watercolor artwork, while the subtle text from Art Marks #3 and the coordinating paint splatters add just enough depth without stealing the spotlight. The result is a card that feels artistic, layered, and complete -- even though it comes together in just a few minutes.

Sometimes we think a card needs more to make it special. More embellishments. More layers. More techniques. But often, it's the thoughtful relationship between color, texture, and a meaningful word that creates the biggest impact.

Discover What's Possible

One of my favorite things about the Simple Expressions collection is seeing how beautifully these stamps pair with our paper goods.

Whether you combine them with Card Fronts, Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), Collage Sheets, Pocket Backdrops, or Ephemera Cut-Out Sheets, each pairing creates a completely different look while allowing the featured word to become part of the artwork.

During our Simple Expressions release, purchase any Simple Expressions stamp set and add one qualifying paper goods pack to your order for 40% off. It's the perfect opportunity to experiment with color, layering, and unexpected combinations -- and perhaps discover your own favorite pairing.

Until next time, keep creating with words that matter.

words that matter | DREAM + Memphis Cool with Stephanie Severin

Some words invite us to imagine what's possible. They encourage us to look beyond where we are today and take that first step toward something bigger. That's exactly the feeling I hoped to capture when I designed DREAM for the Simple Expressions collection.

When I paired the DREAM stamp with our Memphis Cool Pocket Backdrops, I was thinking about how well the bold, graphic styles complemented each other. But when Stephanie's projects landed in my inbox, I noticed something I hadn't fully appreciated before.

The geometric shapes suddenly reminded me of planets, orbits, and the vastness of space. Paired with the word DREAM, the pocket backdrops seemed to take on a whole new meaning -- as if they were encouraging us to dream beyond the horizon and imagine what it could be.

That's one of my favorite parts of the creative process. Sometimes our products come together in ways we didn't intentionally plan, revealing new possibilities along the way.

Today, STAMPgirl Stephanie is sharing three wonderful examples of that unexpected pairing. It's hard to not notice how perfectly these two products complement each other. The bold geometric shapes remind me of planets, orbits, and the endless possibilities that exist beyond what we can see. It's a fitting backdrop for a sentiment that encourages us to dream big.

Stephanie kept each design wonderfully clean and simple, allowing the DREAM sentiment to remain the focal point. By changing the card orientation, mat colors, and embellishments, she created three distinct designs while proving that you don't need a complicated layout to make a meaningful impact.

One of my favorite things about these cards is how naturally the Memphis Cool Pocket Backdrops frame the sentiment. Originally designed as pocket-sized backgrounds, they become much more than that here. Their playful geometric patterns and bold colors create movement and energy without competing with the focal sentiment. The result feels modern, optimistic, and full of possibility.

Stephanie's trio is also a wonderful reminder that sometimes the simplest designs leave the biggest impression: A meaningful word. A thoughtfully chosen background. A few coordinating embellishments. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Discover What's Possible

One of the things I love most about designing products is discovering unexpected pairings like this one. On their own, the DREAM stamp set and the Memphis Cool Pocket Backdrops are two completely different products. Together, they create something neither one could achieve alone.

That's exactly what the Simple Expressions collection is all about. Pair a meaningful word with Card Fronts, Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), Collage Sheets, Pocket Backdrops, or Ephemera Cut-Out Sheets, and you'll often discover combinations that surprise you in the best possible way.

During our Simple Expressions release, purchase any Simple Expressions stamp set and add one qualifying paper goods pack to your order for 40% off. It's the perfect opportunity to discover just how effortlessly these collections work together -- and perhaps even find your own unexpected pairing.

words that matter | COLLECT + Blue Blooms ATCs with Vicki Dutcher

Some words invite us to slow down and appreciate the little things, and collect is one of them. We often think of collections as things we own, but some of life's most valuable collections can't be displayed on a shelf. Moments, memories, friendships, experiences -- these are the things that truly enrich our lives. That's exactly what I had in mind when I designed COLLECT beautiful moments for the Simple Expressions collection.

Vicki's clean and elegant card pairs the COLLECT stamps with our Blue Blooms ATCs in a beautiful way. She arranged three ATCs with postage-style edges into a simple layered focal point, allowing the gorgeous florals and bird imagery to peek out from behind the sentiment without overwhelming the design.

I especially love her decision to stamp only the outline sentiment on vellum and heat-emboss it in gold. The vellum softens the transition between the layers while still allowing the artwork beneath to remain visible, and the gold embossing adds just the right touch of warmth and elegance. The gold sentiment also complements the soft blush pinks and deep navy florals in the ATCs beautifully.

This card is a wonderful reminder that you don't need a complicated design to make an impact. Thoughtful layering, a meaningful sentiment, and beautiful paper goods are sometimes all it takes.

COLLECT is one of 18 stamps in our Simple Expressions collection -- designed to pair beautifully with your favorite paper goods while giving your projects words that matter.

words that matter | SHINE + Spring Florals Card Fronts with Helen Gullett

There are some words that quietly remind us of who we are and who we're meant to be, and shine is one of them. It isn't just about standing out or being noticed. Sometimes, shining simply means sharing our gifts, encouraging someone else, or bringing a little light into an ordinary day. That's exactly what I love about our Simple Expressions collection. These stamps aren't just sentiments to finish a card; they're designed to become part of the artwork itself, helping tell a story through both words and creativity.

Today's featured word is SHINE, and STAMPgirl Helen has created two beautiful cards that show just how versatile the SHINE Simple Expressions stamp can be when paired with our Spring Florals A2 Card Fronts.

For her first card, Helen combined the solid SHINE with a Retro Femme ATC, creating a striking focal point against the floral card front. I especially love how she distressed the edges of the ATC, giving it a soft vintage feel that complements the portrait perfectly. The radiant image, bold sentiment, white paint splatters, and floral background all work together beautifully, with the card front framing the design without competing for attention.

Her second card takes a completely different approach. This time, Helen used only the outline sentiment, allowing the delicate script and bold outline to stand out against the watercolor florals. The black stamping provides just the right amount of contrast, while the simple twine bow adds a lovely finishing touch. It's clean, elegant, and a wonderful reminder that sometimes less really is more.

These two cards are great examples of how the same stamp set can create very different looks depending on how you use it.

SHINE is one of 18 stamps in our Simple Expressions collection -- designed to pair beautifully with your favorite paper goods while giving your projects words that matter.

Words That Matter | HAPPINESS + Retro Femme with Sanna Lippert

There are some words that immediately make us pause and reflect, and happiness is certainly one of them. It's a word we all understand, yet it means something a little different to each of us. That's exactly what I love about our Simple Expressions collection. These stamps aren't just sentiments to add at the end of a project; they're designed to become part of the artwork itself, inviting us to tell a story through both words and creativity.

Today, STAMPgirl Sanna is sharing four beautiful cards featuring our HAPPINESS Simple Expressions stamps paired with the Retro Femme ATC Pack. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect pairing. The expressive portraits and softly vintage feel of the ATCs complement the sentiment so naturally that each card feels thoughtful, artistic, and full of personality.

For her first card, Sanna paired one of the Retro Femme ATCs with our Analog Grunge Collage Paper, creating a warm, vintage-inspired backdrop that lets both the portrait and the bold typographic sentiment shine. The layered collage elements echo the nostalgic feel of the image beautifully.

Her second card is my favorite of the four. Using our Old Letter Pocket Backdrops paper as the background, Sanna added a Floral Parade Ephemera Cut-Out in such a creative way that it becomes a beautiful floral headpiece for the portrait. I absolutely love this detail! It gives the image an almost ethereal quality while adding wonderful softness and dimension to the design.

For the remaining two cards, Sanna showed just how versatile this pairing can be. By changing the ink colors and background treatments, she created completely different moods while allowing the Retro Femme portraits and the HAPPINESS sentiment to make the cards, no extra supplies or products needed! It's a wonderful reminder that even with the same featured products, small creative changes can result in beautifully unique projects.

A Thought to Take With You

One of the reasons I chose the phrase "Happiness is an inside job" is because it reminds us that happiness often begins with the way we choose to see the world. Creativity can be part of that journey. Sometimes spending a little time making something with our own hands is exactly the pause we need to reconnect with joy.

Discover What's Possible

One of my favorite things about Simple Expressions is seeing how beautifully they pair with our Paper Goods. Whether it's an ATC Pack, Card Fronts Pack, Pocket Backdrops, Collage Sheets, or Ephemera Cut-Out Sheets, combining them opens up so many creative possibilities while making it easy to create layered, artful projects.

When you purchase any Simple Expressions stamp set, you can add one Paper Goods pack to your order for 40% off. It's a wonderful opportunity to discover just how effortlessly these collections work together -- and perhaps even find your next favorite creative pairing.

Until next time, keep creating with words that matter.

Words That Matter | SPEAK + Artsy Abstracts with Chris Dring

One of the things I enjoyed most while designing the Simple Expressions collection was thinking about how just a few thoughtfully chosen words can become the heart of a handmade project. Sometimes it's the sentiment that catches our attention first, and sometimes it's the one thing the recipient remembers long after they've put the card away. That's exactly what inspired this collection -- bold, layerable typography that lets the words take center stage.

Today I'm delighted to share two wonderful projects that Chris Dring created using our SPEAK Simple Expressions stamps paired with our Artsy Abstracts Card Fronts. I love that she approached the same products in two completely different ways, showing just how versatile they can be.

For her first card, Chris paired on of the colorful Artsy Abstracts Card Fronts with a striking portrait from the Retro Femme ATC Pack. What caught my eye was how the portrait becomes the focal point while the SPEAK beautiful things sentiment naturally grounds the design. The black enamel dots echo the splatters in the background, creating a wonderful sense of balance without taking attention away from the focal image.

Her second card has a completely different feel. This time, the card front takes center stage, with the sentiment stamped directly onto the background. Chris also added subtle faux texture using our retired Mixed Media Grunge stamps, giving the design a little extra character while keeping the overall look clean and artsy. I love how this card proves that a meaningful sentiment and an expressive background can be all you need.

A Thought to Take With You

Today's featured word is SPEAK.

Words have an incredible way of building people up. Whether they're spoken, written inside a card, or quietly read during someone's day, kind words have lasting impact. I hope this little reminder encourages you to speak beautiful things -- not only to the people around you, but to yourself as well.

If you'd like to see the rest of the Simple Expressions collection, I'd love for you to stop by the shop and take a look. There are 18 expressive designs, each created to celebrate the words that matter most.

And don't forget our launch special. When you purchase any Simple Expressions stamp set, you can add one coordinating Paper Goods Pack at 40% off. Mix and match with our Card Fronts, ATC Packs, Collage Sheets, Pocket Backdrops, and Ephemera Cut-Outs Sheets to build a creative toolkit that's ready for cards, journals, tags, mixed media projects, and so much more.

Introducing Simple Expressions: Words That Matter

Hello again, STAMPfriends! I'm so excited to finally share my newest Designer Series collection with you—Simple Expressions!

This collection began with a simple idea: words matter. Sometimes all it takes is one word and a short phrase to encourage someone, brighten their day, or remind them of something they needed to hear. As cardmakers and paper crafters, we have the privilege of creating projects that people often keep for years, and I wanted to design a collection that helps those meaningful words take center stage.

Simple Expressions includes 18 artsy typography clear stamp sets, each featuring a bold focal word paired with a coordinating handwritten phrase. Whether you're making cards, art journal pages, ATCs, tags, or mixed media projects, these stamps are designed to create sentiments that are both eye-catching and heartfelt.

One of my favorite things about this collection is the way the stamps work together. Each set includes a solid word stamp and a matching outline version that can be layered to create a bold, artistic look. But here's the best part -- there's no need to line them up perfectly. In fact, I designed them to look their best when they're just a little off. That slightly wonky, offset look celebrates the beauty of handmade art and gives every project its own personality.

The stamps are also incredibly versatile. Layer the outline and solid word together for a striking focal point, or repeat the solid word across your cardstock to create a bold typographic background before adding your main sentiment. Because the focal words are approximately one inch tall, they're the perfect size to anchor an A2 card, ATC, journal page, or tag without overwhelming your design.

More than anything, I hope this collection inspires you to create projects with words that matter: words that encourage, comfort, celebrate, inspire, and remind the people in your life how much they mean to you. Those are often the cards we remember most.

I hope you'll enjoy creating with Simple Expressions as much as I enjoyed designing it.

You can browse all 18 stamp sets in the collection here.

Happy stamping!
