{Spotlight Project} Nonni Stamps with Gelatos and Ink Spray

Don't forget to join in on our stamp release blog hop fun
after reading Nonni's awesome project!

Hi, STAMPlorations friends! I'm showing you a quick, fun, messy card I made using the fabulous Bloom Sketches. The idea came to me by accident: I wanted to try watercolor style stamping by spraying my stamp with water and realized I don't own a misting bottle... So off I went trying if stamping with colored mists would work. It did!

Here are the products I used to create this card:

  • Bloom Sketches by STAMPlorations
  • white cardstock
  • a stencil of your choice
  • 2 colours of Gelatos (I used Rasberry and Watermelon)
  • an ink spray (I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Mist Fuzzy Navel Peach)
  • ink for stamping sentiment (I used Purple Encore Metallic Ink)
  • Distress Ink/other suitable ink for inking card edges (I used Tattered Rose)
  • Blending tool/sponge
  • Make up brush/Ink Brush for stenciling (not in the photo, I forgot to add it, sorry!)

Making of this card is very easy. This isn't a long photo tutorial, and I'll be showing you a couple of close-ups!

I started by coloring the stamp by rubbing the Gelatos to it. I colored the center with the darker shade and the petals with the lighter shade. Then I misted the stamp with ink spray. [Tip: If the stamp gets very, very wet, lightly stamp on a scrap piece of paper before stamping on the card.]

After stamping the flowers, I let the card dry (a heat tool can speed up the process). After the stamping is dry, I used the sponging tool/ink brush for stenciling the stencil design. Here's a close up after stamping and stenciling:

Here's where I can either stamp the sentiment now or leave it as a last thing.

Then to the even messier part...I sprayed some ink mist on my fingertips and threw spots and splashes to the card with my fingers. I used a small paintbrush and water to take color from the Gelatos. I added splashes by holding the paintbrush in one hand over the card and lightly tapping it with my other hand.

I tend to make rather clean cards with no splashes and such so when I now got into it, nothing could stop me and that's why my card is very spotty... I accidentally touched a large ink splash near my sentiment when it was still wet and I didn't even start the card over, although everything was not perfect! Well done, Nonni, for being a bit less control-freaky than normally... :) I do love the way some of the splashes and the flowers look but I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing a cleaner design with these techniques from me soon. :)

Anyways, the last thing I did was ink the card edges for added depth and attach the stamped panel to the card base. Before that, I attached some twine to embellish the card.

I hope I've inspired you to try stamping with Gelatos and mists - something you might not remember to stamp with every day!

  1. Such a pretty card and great technique. Isn't it funny how we go off looking for one product and come back with 3 others? :)
