{Mixed Media Tutorial} Stamping thru Stencils by Sanna

Hello everyone, it´s Sanna here again with another Mixed Media tutorial. For today´s post I wanted to share another favorite stenciling technique with you - stamping thru stencils!!! It is so much fun - I really hope you give it a try!!

But first let me show you one card, created using this technique:

And here are the steps for this technique:

First take a few Distress Oxide inks (or spray inks/Distress Inks, paints etc.) and color a background piece. I used Distress Oxides, because I like to play with them very much at the moment. So I applied the inks first onto a non-sticky working surface very randomly.

Next I sprayed some water mist onto the surface. See the nice bubbles on the working surface? That is what you want to create.

Then I placed a white cardstock piece onto the wet surface and pressed here and there onto the paper with my hands. That way the wet ink spreads a little bit on the paper and creates these lovely patterns. After drying the first layer with a heat tool, there were still some ink droplets left on the working surface, so I pressed the paper into them again and again until I had every drop of color picked up from the surface. This is the end result.

After that I took the Senecio 1 stencil and attached it onto the inked paper with washi tape strips to keep it from moving around. Then I took the same brown Distress Oxide tone I had used to create the background and with a alphabet patterned stamp, started stamping thru the stencil onto the paper. The smaller the stamp image is (alphas, numbers and graphic patterns work well here), the better the results are. I continued to stamp until all the stencil areas were done.

Then I just outlined the stencil pattern around the edges with a thin black pen. After that I removed the stencil and this lovely stamped and stenciled pattern emerged. This is now good for using on any type of project and the stencil is very easy to clean, since I used a water soluble ink.

Now all I needed to do, was to create fussy cut banners for the sentiments. I stamped of white paper leftover pieces with a black waterproof ink.

Then I fussy cut the banners and inked them with the same ink colors I had used on the background previously.

 Finally I decorated the cards with some black ink droplets and some faux stitching around the edges. 

The results are really interesting and this type of patterns so much fun to create!!!

 I also did a second background, this time using the grey stamp ink instead of the brown one. 

Other than that I kept the design totally similar to my first card.
