{Spotlight Project} Monika Creates a Distressed Watercolor Look

Hello STAMPlorations Friends! As you know, I am always on the lookout for ways to add colour to my projects without having to be a colourista. Playing with my watercolour pencils the other day, I stumbled across an easy and fun way to do just that. I would like to share it with you today.

Here is the card I made:

I used the Christmas Tree #2 die as my template, placed it with the cutting edge up on a die-cut piece of mixed media card and roughly coloured the tree with my watercolour pencils.

You don't need to be too precise, it is just a way of adding some colour.

This is what it looked like once I removed the die.

I then spritzed the coloured tree with water. You can see the pigment being activated and starting to bleed out for a softer look.

Once dry, I stamped the little star in red and my sentiment in grey and black.

To finish, I layered on a matching red base card. I rather like the distressed and textured look you can achieve with this technique.

If you fancy trying out this technique, here are a couple of tips:

Of course, you can use ARTplorations stencils with watercolour pencils in this way too.
Using watercolour card instead of mixed media card, should work well too. Why not try it out with other card stock.
If you want to take it a bit further, you could try adding some shading after the spritzing once the card has dried.
