{Spotlight Project} Becca Washes And Washis

Today's card features paint washed backgrounds and washi tape! Washes and washis, as it were.

Sometimes when I want to get all mixed media, but don't necessarily want to make a huge mess, I settle in on a subtle paint washed background. It's an easy way to feel like you're bringing a little painterly art to a card without committing to a whole cleanup session (... haha... who really cleans their craft room?!).

This paint washed background is pretty simple and only involves one simple color: The new Speckled Egg Distress Paint from Tim Holtz. This happens to be my new favorite color of all time. It's so soft and creamy and vintagey.

I picked up a little bit of paint on my brush and started in the upper left corner, pulling my paint from left to right in one direction. Then I moved my brush about halfway down the card, picking up more paint and started on the right, moving my brush from right to left. I added just a subtle hint in of paint in the lower left corner, working from left to right.

By creating juxtaposing lines on a card, it adds visual interest and real sense of movement.

Next, I found a group of washi tapes in rose gold, which I think complements the Speckled Egg tones quite nicely. I created multiple layers and lengths of tape, working from one side of the paper.

Using the Wonderful Life stamp set, I stamped some stars in tones of blue and green.

I used the CUTplorations Pierced Curly Frames/Tags Nesting Dies to create a sentiment focal panel and colored in the dots. This lovely sentiment is also from the Wonderful Life stamp set and I think it's so encouraging!

Put it all together and a few enamel dots later and viola! Mixed media lite. An easy no-fuss way to get your inner artist on.
