{Spotlight Project} Becca Makes a Splash with a Water Shaker

There's nothing I love more than a good shaker card - besides a good shaker card made with WATER!

That's right, we're getting a little bit splashy around the STAMPlorations parts with today's Spotlight post. 

This card involves a little bit of futsyness (it's a word if I say it is) but the end results are so worth it!

First of all, I want to acknowledge where inspiration comes from, and in this case it came from a Youtube video from Yainea. She used this technique to make an adorable little fishbowl card so if you want to watch a process video, she made a really good one! 

Now on to my photo tutorial.

Step 1:

Die cut a circle and lay a clear, sealable craft bag over the top of it.

Surround the bag with mounting foam along the sides and bottom, leaving the top un-taped.

Step 2:

Remove the baggy and fill a small amount of water. 

And I do mean a SMALL amount of water.

I filled about an inch above the bottom. 

If you use too much water, it will make the card bubble and not lay flat.

Step 3:

Add 2-3 drops of Distress Re-inker to color your water. 

(I used Mermaid Lagoon because it seemed fitting.)

Sprinkle in some glitter.

Seal the bag.

Smoosh it all around to blend.

Step 4:

Stop. 

Admire your handiwork.

Play with the glittery bag.

Say "ooooo".

Step 5:

Add a piece of cardstock to the top of mounting foam. 

Slide the glitter bag (carefully) into the slit on the top. 

Fold the top flap of the bag over the top of the cardstock backing.

Seal firmly with tape. 

Please note - if you don't fold it over the top, it has a MUCH higher likelihood of leaking.

Step 6: 

Color your ship! 

This ship is from the True North set.

(You can color it with whatever colors float your boat.)

Cut out the ship and place it on your card using some adhesive. 

Step 7:

Use the happy birthday sentiment from the Balloons and Banners set.

Add some fun baker's twine. 

Mount it on your card base.

Taaaa daaaaa!!

This card is definitely fun, festive and totally different. 

It's my first time making a water shaker, so I can't attest to longevity, but Yainea said she's had some that have lasted several years with no problems.
