{Spotlight Project} Maria Sloshes a Spotlight

Greetings! Nice to be back. Today I am using the spotlight technique and "sloshing" (to quote my teamie Shirley) with watercolors. Ready?

I love artistic, outline stamp images. But I'm not a colorer. So I have to come up with other ways of using them. That's where the spotlight technique came in. And some masking.

STEP 1

I cut a panel of white CS and chose my images - the hummingbird and blossoms from The Birds and The Blooms. I used Archival black ink since I would be using watercolors.

STEP 2

I knew I wanted to cascade the blossoms down the right edge of the panel. I stamped the hummingbird without inking the flower which is a part of the image, masked it and then stamped the blossoms. I started with the one whose center the hummer was visiting.

STEP 3

When finished stamping and masking, I stamped the sentiment.

STEP 4

I die cut a circle from the panel and watercolored it, "sloshing" the colors on. First I dabbed a blob of water to the stamped images, then I dropped in a bit of Distress Ink which I had pressed to an acrylic block. I only went in with a color when the previous color was dry. I ran the circle through my Big Shot to flatten it when it was completely dry.

STEP 5

Keeping everything clean and simple, I adhered the panel flush on a white cardbase and then simply adhered the circle with foam adhesive. I know those blossoms are supposed to be daffodils, but I decided they would make for nice generic red flowers which are the ones hummingbirds seem to love at my folks'.
