If you caught our surprise birthday party for Shery, you proabably saw today's card. (Have you hooked up to the
linky party with a birthday card for Shery yet? You can until July 19.) I made a mixed media card that wasn't hard at all. As long as you don't mind messy fingers!
Here's that card.
Gathered my supplies - white cardstock, texture paste, stencils
Bubbles and
Bold Florals,
Sketchy Alphabet and Distress Inks.
STEP 2
Swiped Tumbled Glass ink directly onto CS panel.
STEP 3
Put down
Bubbles stencil and sponged some Chipped Sapphire through it randomly. Used a round applicator to mimic the bubbles.
STEP 4
Pulled the stencil off and taped down
Bold Florals. Put an ample supply of texture paste onto my non-stick craft sheet and added two drops of Broken China (refill).
Mixed the paste well and applied it through the top third of the stencil. Added two more drops of ink, mixed it up and...
STEP 6
... applied it through the middle third of the stencil. Added two more drops of ink to the remaining paste and applied it to the lower third. Thus, ombre.
STEP 7
By now you should know to expect this next step from me ;) I removed the stencil - you can see the wet panel up top - and quickly scraped up the leftover paste from the mat and applied it through the stencil onto the right side of my scrap paper notebook. Then I flipped the stencil over (on the left) and rubbed it with my hand, creating a monoprint of the stencil. Will have to see if I can work these leftovers into a project one day!
STEP 8
STEP 9
Pulled out a 6x6 PP pad which just seemed to fit the mood of my mixed media panel and cut a strip to use with my sentiment. Chose a pattern with spots of yellow and red to bring small contrasting touches to my card.
STEP 10
Using yellows and red colored pencils I finished my personalized sentiment. Snipped it into a banner. TIP: To make a banner, with a pencil, make a dot in the center of the strip. Then using scissors, cut from the left corner to the dot and then from the right corner to the dot.
Here's another shot of the finished card. I stapled the sentiment and adhered the panel to a red cardbase. The ombre is very subtle but I think you can see it here. Three drops of ink would probably make for a more dramatic ombre.
