{Mixed Media Tutorial} Art Journal Cover by Monika

Hello Crafty Friends! Today I am taking you through the process on how I made my journal cover. I have been meaning for a while to turn this bright pink notebook cover into an inspiring one for my journal. Today was the day, it finally got done. Have a look ...

As you can see, I went to town and covered it with lots of inspiring messages.

I started off by cutting a piece of white card slightly smaller than the actual cover and rounded two of the corners.

Next I coloured the piece of card with Coastal Cabana, Spritzed with water and added some stenciling through the Cobweb stencil using the same ink and a shaving brush.

I then added some more stenciling, this time using the Retro Circles stencil with Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry Inks.

To finish off the stenciled background, I used the Floral Flutes stencil with Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo inks.

Using the Bloom Silhouettes stencil, I first brushed some black ink through the stencil before adding the Black Stars Sparkle Medium.

Next I randomly stamped some sentiments from the Born To Roam set.

I inked up a piece of white card and stamped out some sentiments from the Subway Art Builders Dare and the MOM Subway Art Builders #2 - Grace In Each Step, which is a retiring stamp. If you like it, you need to get it before it sells out.

Next I heat embossed the large 'Celebrate' and the exclamation mark, both from another retiring set called Celebrate, in pink, added golden die-cut letters, Uppercase Alphabet Plate Die, to spell the words 'My Journey' and attached it to the front cover of my journal.

I then snipped the stamped sentiments apart, edged them with black and added them to the cover.

Some birds were needed too. I dug out the Trendy Birds 2 set and stamped them in black.

To blend it all in, I added stamping in Melon Mambo using the dotty border from the Mixed Media Grunge set and some black doodles.

I finished off with some sequins and a die-cut golden butterfly, Flutter Zen #2 Layering Dies.

Here is a little close-up for you.

That's it from me for today. Hope you feel inspired to have a playful time and create your own mixed media project. If you do, why not link it up with our January Mixed Media Challenge which will run until the end of this month. The Mixed Media Challenge is always Anything But A Card Goes + Use a Stencil, I look forward to seeing you there.

Have a lovely weekend!
