{Mixed Media Tutorial} No Mistakes Art Journal Page by Sanna

Hi there everyone, it´s Sanna here today again to share another mixed media tutorial with you! I have been really hooked on creating "faux watercolor" background based art journal pages recently. Just cannot get enough of those. So I thought, I´d share the how-to to those with you today. I´ve again prepared a start-to-finish video for you to watch, but let me first share the finished page with you:

This page can be created with quite little media and tools. You just need some spray inks (I used 4 tones here), a water mist bottle, a paint brush, a heat gun, a stamp a stencil, some stamp inks and a black and a white pen.

First start by adding spray inks onto a paint tray, then mist the paper with a water spray bottle until it is quite moist. You don´t need any primer (gesso etc.) on the page, since this technique is much more fun without  it!

Then start adding color from the tray with the paint brush onto to wet areas. Start with one color and let the color spread freely on the paper so it can create fun patterns and forms. Because there is no gesso underneath it reacts with the paper in fun ways. Then dry with a heat gun. Repeat with all colors you have chosen.

When the surface is completely dry, take the Evolution stencil and place it somewhere near the edge of the art journal to add a frame around the colored area along the edges. Place the stencil onto the paper and start adding brown Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool thru the stencil onto the paper. Move and repeat until you have all areas covered.

Take a black pen and outline the stenciled patterns with it to give them more depth and to make them stand out better from the bold colored background. You can also add some white gel pen details here and there if you like.

Now take a Typografia Motivate Great Love stamp and stamp the word "do" onto the page with black ink using the partial stamping technique (see the video for details). Should the stamped image not turn out perfect, you can easily fix it with the black pen! Then add a hand written quote to the page and highlight the letters with the black and white pens.

For finishing touches add blue spray ink splatters to the page and a date, so you know when you did that particular one. That´s it! Very easy, and so much fun! And now to the video step-by-step:

I hope you enjoy my this months tutorial and get inspired to create fun "faux watercolor" background art journal pages yourself! See you soon!

Happy creating,
