{Mixed Media Tutorial} Intuitive Art Painting by Asmah
Hello STAMPlorations lovers! I am super happy to be back once more with my first tutorial in the beginning year 2018. I hope each and everyone of you have had wonderful joyous holidays the past weeks with your loved ones. I sure did have great times with my family members.
Without further ado, let me take you to my intuitive painting in a mini art journal paper bag album with stenciling in the background. I assure you it's very easy!
I used very limited materials to create this art work. All I used are basic items such as stamps and stencils from STAMPlorations shop, gesso, texture paste, watercolors, stamping ink and time {smile}.
To get started, I brush off a thin layer of gesso to prime the page. I have recently bought a new brush while shopping with my children for their stationery last month but for some reasons I still like that old distressed brush. I'm not giving up on it yet but when I do, it will be my next tool for mixed media project {time will tell, chuckle}.
When the gesso has dried naturally, I painted the page with sky blue and fluorescent yellow at first. I seldom have one layer of colors. You will see I added different colors shortly.
Once the colors have dried, I applied texture paste through circular two stencil to form random patterns and let dry.
I decided to add more colors but however at this point, I wasn't too happy with my color choice this time. Duh! So I sponged the colors away in order to lift it up but I did too aggressively {oh my!} so unfortunately I lost a little bit of the textured pattern at the corner. Okay, what's done is done. The happy accident can be fixed, not a big deal, right?
So out came raw umber and emerald green to light up my heart. At this point, yes I am quite satisfied with the outcome, I added more layers of these two colors that I got carried away and the first coat of colors almost faded away but this is art. You just keep going until you reach satisfaction. Never mind if people don't understand what you are doing but you definitely know what you want in your original art work because you are not copying anyone anyway. That's the most important part, be authentic and be you!
Eventually I got what I wanted so it's time to play with some stamps from Trendy Birds 2 collection.
I stamped the bird on acid free drawing paper and fussy cut which is my favorite thing to do.
Before I let the birdie sit on the page, I splattered white paint for additional interest. I also used the branch which the birdie sit on to stamp the page a bit to create random patterns. How versatile this stamp design can be?
Here is the full spread I'm showing officially right here. You may have seen the left page yesterday at January Mixed Media Challenge. Why don't you come along and play with us this month? You may stand a chance to win gorgeous prize. Good luck on that!
I hope you find my art journal inspiring and hopefully you find my 'follow your heart' painting interesting. I'll be glad if you used my coupon code when you shop at STAMPlorations.
Until I see you again next month with another tutorial. Meanwhile, have great fun time creating and take good care.
Hugs and smiles,
