{Spotlight Project} Shirley Creates a Classic Card

Have you seen the gorgeous new stamp club set, Gone Postal? I love that there are mini images to match some of the existing larger images, so you can make matching postage stamp images.

I chose to work with the classic car images.

I started off by stamping the large car image (Enjoy The Ride) and the postage stamp onto white card using my MISTI, then stamped them again onto copy paper. At this stage (not having a clear idea of how the card would end up yet) I knew I needed a mask for the postage stamp but wasn't sure if I would need one for the car, but stamped it anyway, just in case ;).

I cut out the inner portion of the postage stamp and aligned it over my card so that I could stamp a partial image of the small car within the postage stamp area.

Once that was stamped I removed the mask and coloured the images with Distress Markers. I also stamped out the letters from Sketchy Alphabet to spell 'classic' on spare card and coloured and fussy cut those.

I wanted a retro-style background in keeping with the car image and text, so I used the ARTplorations Dots All Over stencil. So I did need that mask of the car after all. I also had to cut another mask of the postage stamp to include the edges.

I'd googled 'American Classic Cars' to get an authentic colour scheme - red seemed to be the most popular, so I also used red for the letters, and angled them for a retro look, and matted the panel onto a red card base. The rest of the sentiment comes from Blossom Overture (happy) and Sentiment Builders: Happy (birthday to a).

Here's another look at the finished card.

Remember, if you try out any of the techniques from our Spotlight posts and add your project to our Spotlight Project Showcase you have a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).
