{Spotlight Project} Shirley Asks, "What's Your Favourite Donut Topping?"

The things we do for our art! Many moons ago when I used to eat donuts (they were actually doughnuts to me), the only version you got was coated in sugar. Not even any jammy filling. But now you can get so many different toppings, so I thought I'd do a little research for this card.

It seems there are endless varieties of topping to choose from, so I went into production to make some of my own. Here's my little donut topping factory in action:

First step on the production line, I stamped the donut image four times on white card using Versafine Onyx Black.

The next stop was to experiment with different media for toppings:

  • Top left: Glass Beads Texture Gel which goes on opaque white but dries clear.
  • Top right: gold and clear micro beads on a layer of Glossy Accents.
  • Bottom left: Liquid Pearls.
  • Bottom right: dry fine glitter on a layer of PVA glue.

And my toppings were born:

  • Top left: Vanilla Frosted
  • Top right: Cinnamon sugar
  • Bottom left: Glazed
  • Bottom right: Powdered sugar

The next stage in the production line was to colour the donuts. I started off using Aquarelle Neocolour II water-soluble crayons (top left) but abandoned them in favour of Distress markers. But I like all the different shades when they're all piled up on the card.

Then I fussy cut them out, leaving a narrow white border all around, then piled them up for a yummy birthday card. Here's another look at the finished card - enjoy!

My favourite topping would be vanilla frosted - what's yours?

  2. Love your "sweet" card! I always get either the chocolate doughnut with chocolate icing or just a plain glazed doughnut. I am so boring that way. LOL
