{Spotlight Project} Shirley's Shading Stencils

Hi, peeps! I've been playing with the new products in the Toyshop STAMPlorations store - ARTplorations Stencils. I've used the Bold Florals, which reminds me of frangipanis. When I lived in Australia, frangipanis were my favourite flower - I just loved their colour and the smell of them.

I used masking tape to adhere the stencil to some yellow card.

Then covered the stencil with modelling paste. I'd gone to the art shop for texture paste but they only had modelling paste, which apparently is a bit thicker, for adding texture and definition to canvases, but it worked really well for stencilling, and has a lovely smooth finish - much smoother than Polyfilla, which may now be relegated to its rightful place in the garage.

I used a metal palette knife for spreading. It's flexible and works better than a credit card. I have other very good uses for my credit card, usually involving a craft shop ;)

Remove the stencil immediately, wash off all the paste, and leave the panel to dry. It doesn't take long, but Ms Impatience here couldn't resist poking at it too soon.

I used ochre and light olive Aquarelle Neocolour II crayons to add colour to the flower centres and the grooves between the leaves, and used a wet brush to push the colour around and drag it onto the modelling paste. The angled shader brush was great for getting the colour into the grooves.

Then I trimmed the panel down to fit a black pre-scored card ready and waiting for a sentiment.

Go and take a look in the Toyshop where there are more fabulous ARTplorations stencils.
