{Mixed Media Tutorial} Stencilling with Embossed Texture Paste

Hello crafters, Craftyfield here!

For my second tutorial I am elevating the stencilling with the Embossed Textured paste technique. This gives a more dimensional effect, as if embossing with powders multiple times.
Texture paste and embossing with stencil

Supplies:

Texture paste (mine is Grunge Paste from Paper Artsy)
Embossing powder (mine is Wow! in Perissa, a mix of silver, gold, and copper red )

1) Secure card and stencil to your work area, you don't want anything moving as you apply the paste!

2) Apply you chosen texture paste as usual, without taking too long as the top layer of the paste needs to be wet for the next stage.

3) Take the stencil off and sprinkle the embossing powder all over, tapping off the excess and return it to the pot.

When dry, (I usually let the paste dry overnight) melt the powder with the heat gun. This way there is less chance of the paste bubbling when heated. Click on the picture below to see the shine up close!

Now you know the base technique nothing stops you from combining it with others... for instance adding powders in an ombre design like I did on this card:

Texture paste and embossing powders technique

Supplies:

Texture paste (Grunge paste as before)
Embossing powders: Wow! Vintage Peacock, Seaglass, Blue Pearl and Frantage Aged Aqua (Stampendous).

To do this:

1) As before secure card and stencil to the work surface, and apply the paste quickly.

2) As my ombre is applied dark to light in an oval shape, I sprinkled each colour of powders, tapping off the excess each time

For this card I did leave the stencil in place but I know that the paste I use will dissolve in water even after drying. If yours doesn't, you need to remove the stencil and wash immediately.

Beware of contaminating your powders when you do this and either use an empty pot for the resulting mix or throw the excess away if this is something that will bother you. My colours were pretty compatible, so I didn't mind a bit of contamination!

The best stencils to use for this technique are the ones with large open areas and the effect it produces create fantastic backgrounds, which only need a small focal image or die-cut to make into cards.

Enjoy experimenting! I will be back next month for another technique.
