Paper Goods Showcase | Bold Layers and Bright Celebrations with Stephanie

Sometimes the easiest way to make a card your own is to start with paper goods that already have plenty of personality. STAMPgirl Stephanie shows two different ways to do that in these projects, combining bold backgrounds, focal elements, and coordinating products to create cards that are full of color and energy.

Layer Bold Patterns for a Strong Statement

Stephanie's first card is a colorful mix of geometric patterns and empowering words. She started with Memphis Cool Pocket Backdrops and Industrial Patchwork Collage Paper, layering the two patterned paper goods to create a dynamic background.

Rather than letting all those patterns compete, Stephanie chose a pocket backdrop sheet with a large white area, matted it over a solid color and adhered it over the center of the card. The clean space gives the eye somewhere to rest while allowing the colorful layers around it to remain part of the design.

For the focal message, she used a sentiment from Strong Women, stamping the sentiment "She Believed She Could, So She Did." The sentiment becomes the heart of the card while the surrounding patterns add energy and personality.

The bold red, yellow, blue, and black elements repeat throughout the layers, helping all the different patterns feel connected rather than random.

Creative Takeaway: Don't Be Afraid of Pattern

When you're working with bold paper goods, you don't necessarily have to choose just one pattern. The trick is to give those patterns different roles. In her card above, she used two different patterned papers to create visual interest. This is a great approach when you have several bold papers you love but aren't sure how to combine them. Let one pattern take the lead, use another to support it, and introduce a clean area where your main sentiment or image can shine.

Turn Colorful Paper Goods into a Celebration

For her second card, Stephanie took a different approach. She started with Mixed Media Card Fronts, choosing one of the colorful backgrounds as the foundation for a bright celebration card.

She layered the colorful candle image from Perfect Pairs: Party & Wishes onto vellum, allowing the lively mixed-media background to remain visible around it. The large Celebrate sentiment from the Skinny Sentiments dies then becomes the main focal point, sitting directly across the candles. The result is colorful, playful, and full of movement, with the large sentiment tying all the different colors and elements together.

Creative Takeaway: Let One Element Take the Lead

A busy background doesn't mean you need to simplify everything else. Instead, think about which element you want people to notice first. On Stephanie's second card, the colorful candles and oversized "Celebrate" sentiment work together as the focal point, while the Mixed Media card front provides all the energetic texture and color behind them.

A useful way to approach a card like this is to establish a visual hierarchy: choose your main focal point, make it larger or more prominent, and let the other elements support it rather than compete with it.

Paper Goods Give You a Place to Start

These two cards show just how differently paper goods can be used. Stephanie layered pocket backdrops and collage paper to create a bold, graphic foundation for one card, while a Mixed Media card front became the colorful backdrop for a completely different celebration design.

The creative takeaway is simple: don't feel like you have to start with a blank piece of cardstock. Start with a paper goods piece that already speaks to you, then build around it. Add a focal image, a sentiment, a few layers, or another pattern from your stash. Once you have that first piece in place, the rest of the card can start telling you what it needs.

Paper Goods Showcase | Pop Art Coffee ATCs with Angy

Sometimes a great focal piece is all you need to get a mixed-media card started. STAMPgirl Angy shows us how with two cards featuring the Pop Art Coffee ATC, building layered backgrounds with stencils, stamped sentiments, and plenty of texture.

Make the Coffee the Star

For her first card, Angy placed a colorful Pop Art Coffee ATC front and center, then built a warm, coffee-themed background around it. She used the Dots 'n Beans stencil along with the Chevron Crazy stencil to add pattern and movement, and finished the card with the Grab a Cup stamp. The bright colors in the ATC stand out against the more muted background, while the stenciled layers keep the rest of the card interesting without competing with the focal piece.

Build Layers Around Your Focal Point

Angy's second card takes the same Pop Art Coffee ATC and creates a different mixed-media setting for it. This time, she used the Dots 'n Beans stencil to build texture into the rich brown background and added the Coffee Always stamp for another coffee-themed detail. The result has that wonderfully layered mixed-media feel, with the ATC providing the colorful focal point while the stenciling creates depth and visual interest around it.

A Simple Formula for Mixed-Media Cards

These cards are a great reminder that you don't need to start with a complicated composition. Choose one piece you really like, make it your focal point, and build the rest of the card around it.

A colorful ATC, a coordinating stencil, and a few stamped details can be enough to create a card with plenty of personality. The key is letting the focal piece guide your color choices and keeping the supporting layers connected to its theme.

Keep Creating with Paper Goods

The Pop Art Coffee ATC is just one of the many paper goods you can use as a starting point for your next project. With card fronts, ATCs, collage paper, pocket backdrops, and ephemera cut-out sheets to choose from, there are plenty of ways to mix, match, layer, and create.

paper goods showcase | layering paper goods, dies & clear stickers with Vicki Dutcher

One of my favorite things about paper crafting is discovering how different products can work together to create something that's greater than the sum of its parts. Today, STAMPgirl Vicki is sharing two beautiful cards that combine our paper goods, dies, and clear stickers in different ways. Although the styles couldn't be more different, both projects show how layering just a few well-chosen elements can create cards with depth, texture, and personality.

For her first card, Vicki paired the Flowers + Coffee Focal Fronts with the Wonky Stitched Grid Texture Cover Plate Die to create a richly textured background. She finished the design with a sentiment from the All Things Coffee Clear Stickers collection, allowing the oversized coffee cup and colorful florals to remain the stars of the show.

Vicki took a softer, vintage-inspired approach with her second card. She started with one of the card fronts from the Italia collection. She darkened it with ink and used the Circles All Over Texture Cover Plate for texture. The beautiful Blue Blooms ATC becomes the focal point, while the Skinny Sentiments "Celebrate" Die adds a greeting that stands out against the richly layered background. A touch of burlap introduces texture and warmth, proving that even a simple embellishment can completely change the feel of a design.

Creative Takeaway

You don't need a lot of products to create a card with visual impact. Start with a strong focal element -- whether it's a Focal Front, an Artist Trading Card (ATC), or another paper goods piece. Then add one or two supporting elements, like a die-cut sentiment or a clear sticker, to enhance the design without overwhelming it. Sometimes the most memorable cards come from letting each product do what it does best.

Happy crafting!

Creative Inspiration | Clean & Playful with Monika

One of my favorite things about our Never-Ending Anything Goes Challenge is exactly what the name suggests: anything goes. Every month we see so many different styles, techniques, and creative interpretations in our community, and today's projects from STAMPgirl Monika are a wonderful reminder that there's no single "right" way to create.

Although these two cards are completely different in style, both beautifully showcase how a simple idea can come to life in its own unique way.

Monika's first card features the Layered Stars stamp set. I love the elegant simplicity of this slimline design. The delicate border of stars frames the card beautifully, while the softly colored layered star naturally draws the eye. Paired with the graceful "Wish upon a Star" sentiment, the finished design feels peaceful, timeless, and beautifully balanced.

Her second card takes a much more playful approach. Using the Artsy Tribal Doodles stamp set, Monika created a whimsical flower from repeated stamped images, resulting in a bright, cheerful focal point full of movement and personality. She finished the design with the inspiring sentiment from the True and Free stamp set: "Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower." I love how perfectly the sentiment complements the hand-stamped bloom.

Creative Takeaway

Monika's cards remind us there isn't just one creative style to aspire to. One card embraces clean lines and generous white space, while the other celebrates playful repetition and bold color. Both are equally successful because each design stays true to its own style.

That's the beauty of creativity -- and exactly why our Never-Ending Anything Goes Challenge welcomes every maker, every technique, and every creative voice.

Join the Fun!

Creative Tip of the Day | Layer Your Stamping Over a Printed Background

Some cards look like they took hours to create, but they're really built from a handful of thoughtful layers.

Today's beautiful card by STAMPgirl Jane is a perfect example. She started with our Spring Florals A2 Card Front, then added a few stamped flowers around the edges, die cut a bold "Thanks" sentiment, and finished it with a beautifully colored butterfly.

The result feels rich and detailed, but each layer has a purpose -- and none of them compete for attention.

How to Get the Look

Start with a patterned or printed background that already does some of the design work for you.

Instead of covering it up, stamp a few coordinating images so they extend beyond the edges of the printed design. Jane stamped several flowers from It's A Girl Thing: Sunshine, colored them, cut them out, and layered them around the floral background to make the design feel larger than the original print.

Finish with one bold focal element -- in this case, the glittery "Thanks" die cut -- and a butterfly to anchor the lower corner.

Why We Love It

  • It adds depth without adding bulk.
  • Layered stamped images make a printed background feel custom.
  • Repeating similar floral shapes ties everything together while keeping the eye moving around the card.

Creative Takeaway

The next time you reach for a patterned paper or card front, don't think of it as the finished background. Think of it as the first layer.

A few coordinating stamped images placed around the edges can make it feel like you created the entire scene yourself.

Discover what's possible by combining your favorite stamped images with our Paper Goods to create layered designs that look intricate but come together with surprisingly little effort.
