{Spotlight Project} Becca Gets Snarky with Sketchy Alphabet

For the COFFEE HAPPY special stamp release mini hop, click here. (ends 2/19)

Aloha, friends! Today, I'm going to do something that will come as no surprise to those who have seen my past projects on STAMPlorations - I'm going to get a little snarky!

My cousin/best friend/pretty-much-sister is turning the big three-oh on Friday and I knew I wanted to make something that pokes a little bit of fun at her impending old age. *snicker.

Really, I just know that when I turn 30 in July, she's definitely going to get snarky with me - so this is a preemptive strike.

I've been having so much fun thinking through all the fun custom sentiments I can make with the new Sketchy Alphabets set and today I'm going to show you how to keep the letters in line in an easy  peasy way.

A MISTI! If you haven't heard of a MISTI (short for Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented) then you really aren't living. My MISTI has become a quintessential part of my crafting life.

The top has gridlines that make it easy to line up all the letters and keep them straight. (Pardon the smudges by the way - this is real crafting in action!)

Now, the Alphabet set doesn't have multiple of letters, so you can't spell out the entire sentiment all at once. The trick is to start the next word while the first word is still stuck to the grid. It helps position the letters and spacing.

Likewise, when a word has multiples of the same letter: stamp first, reposition the multiple letter, ink it up and then restamp. Since your letters and paper remain in the exact same position, you don't have to worry about the second stamping messing up the original.

I stamped a background using the Sketchy Cupcake stamp set. Since I wanted the sentiment to really POP, I kept the background black and white and colored in the words with a bright rainbow ombre.

I really want to see your snark! I'd love to see what you're working on that spotlights your sense of humor. Link up your project to our Spotlight Project Showcase for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).

  1. Well, I guess you really need to be close and share the same sense of humour to pull off a birthday card like this one. Reminds me of when I went to see a film with one of my sisters and there was this scene that made only two people laugh... Yep, just me and my sister lol.

  2. I think this will be a great card for her 30th and I think you will get a snarky card of equal snarkiness in return on your birthday! That Misti looks like a cool tool Your colored letters are very nice!

  3. Snarkers unite...this is such a hoot. Love the sweet cupcakes with that not so sweet and colorful sentiment.

  4. Very cool! I love this saying and quite fun:)

  5. Love it Becca - snark and all!! Hate to think what you would put a on a card for me ;-).

  6. Oh Becca, this is too funny! And reminds me of (cough, cough!) when I turned 50, my MOM (of all people!) got the idea for one of her grandkids to bring out a fire extinguisher when they lit my candles. I did laugh, of course. But when HER 80th birthday came around just a few months later, I found 6 fire extinguishers - and 6 of her grandkids to help! lol Fair is fair after all. lol

  7. Fun card! Reminds me that when a friend and I were both just turning 30 (me, a couple of months before her!), she signed my birthday card, "From your much younger friend....".

  8. Buahahahaha!! That's my kind of card! Love this!!

  9. I can't wait for this stamp set to make it's way to me as I know it's already in the mail! Your card is hilarious, and I love the rainbow colours against the b/w background.
