Hi friends! Kim Skinner guest designing for the Throwback Thursday feature! I have 3 cards to share with you today featuring quick and easy backgrounds. My inspiration card was created by the queen of CAS card design, Tenia Nelson! I've long admired Tenia's distinct style of card making and I have been in awe of her talent for clean and simple designs.

Check out the card I'm using for my inspiration:

I love this card she created with this fabulous floral digital stamp and a simple paper pierced background. I challenged myself to create something similar with quick and easy backgrounds and an effort to retain lots of white space on the card.

I've used the Bloomfully: Kindness stamp set for all of my cards today. I stamped them on watercolor paper and used my Karin Brushmarkers to add color. I cut them down to 3" x 3" squares and for two of them, I used the same gold embossing technique around the square that Tenia has used in the card she created. What a pretty detail! The third floral image I created was fussy cut out to be added directly onto one of my backgrounds.

Let's check out what I created using Tenia's card as inspiration!

My first card simply uses the Circles All Over Cover Plate on white card stock.

This is my very favorite cover plate die! It creates a simple and elegant background to your lovingly colored or painted images. It gives you a perfect back drop to any image without taking away from the image you spent so much time creating. It adds that little something extra to your card while keeping it clean and retaining the white space on the card!

My second card uses a heat embossing technique using the ARTplorations Bubbles Stencil!

The mixed media artist in me loves this technique! I simply inked up my stencil with Versa Mark embossing ink and "stamped" it onto my card. I added rose gold embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool. So simple! I love that you don't get a perfect background with this technique. You get an artsy airy feel that still has a lot of white space, but adds that nice metallic element. I chose to use the fussy cut image and I heat set the kindness sentiment in black directly on the card front panel.

My third card uses a simple swiping technique and some ink splatter to create a bright background for my stamped image.

This is another quick and easy background that adds a fun back drop while retaining lots of white space on your card.

I simply swiped my Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink pad across the card front panel and then let it dry. Once it was dry, I added some ink splatter in that same ink color. The kindness sentiment is stamped directly on to the card front and I added the square image at an angle so that you can see some of that swiped background and splatter!

You can see all of these techniques on my video HERE.

I always aspire to create CAS cards, but I do love my background techniques too much to give them up!

Thank you for stopping by! Please leave a comment and let me know which card is your favorite! I hope you enjoyed my twists on Tenia's CAS card.
