{Spotlight Project} Monika Adds A Little Shimmer

Hello STAMPlorations Friends! Today I wanted to share something that works really well with coloured card. The secret is to add shimmer to watercolours. This technique is a perfect match for our current Stamp Club set Bloomful.

Let's have a look at today's cards. First up the one using Perfect Pearls in watercolour:

The second one uses the easy way of using Twinkling H2Os:

The mica powder in both makes watercolours a little more opaque hence they work perfectly with coloured card.

I started off by white embossing the floral stamp on both cards. I also added a bit of stamping with VersaMark to two of the corners of my base cards using the same stamp to provide more interest and encourage the eye to wander without being overbearing.

When using watercolour with coloured card I tend to pick colours which naturally blend well with the colour of my base card. Starting off with the easy card using the Twinkling H2Os, I picked my colours, Celestial Sun, Mandarin Blush, Midori Melon and Golden Bamboo, and watercoloured the embossed image.

That was easy! For my pink card, I wanted to re-create the shimmer effect using watercolours and Perfect Pearls.
Watercolour pans should already have a binding agent such as Gum Arabic added to them which means that they bind the Perfect Pearls to the colour preventing them from being rubbed off. Should you want to use liquid watercolours when trying this technique, it might be best to add a binding agent.

I picked the yellow, pink and purple from my Tropical watercolour set and black from another set to work with.

I added a bit of each colour to a mixing tray and mixed with a matching Perfect Pearls powder, yellow with Perfect Gold, pink and purple with Rust and black with Heirloom Gold.

Thanks to a sunny spell, I managed to capture some of the shimmer. As you can see, there is not much of a difference in sparkle.

A stamped sentiment finished the cards off perfectly.

That's it from me for today. If you feel like adding shimmer to watercolours or making a project using any of the techniques or ideas shared by my teamies in their Spotlight Posts, make sure to link up your makes with our spotlight project gallery here.

Have a lovely day!
