{Throwback Thursday} Black And White Cards With A Touch Of Color With Kim

Hey, STAMPlorations friends! It's Thursday and it's time for Throwback Thursday! The talented Kim Skinner is back to share cards inspired by projects created by the STAMPgirls. Make sure you comment on this post for a chance at a $15 prize code. Every month, we draw 7 winners, with the winners randomly drawn from all posts published during the month. The more posts you comment on, the more chances you have.

Hello friends!  Kim here from Stamping Imperfection for the Throwback Thursday feature. I have 3 cards to share with you that were inspired by a fantastic card made by Maria Fischer.

I love this card! There is something very appealing about a black and white card with a touch of color. We also don't always have time to paint or color a card full of images and it's nice to have a few ideas for adding color quickly.

I actually assumed that Maria had stamped the floral image multiple times in black ink and then stenciled with her inks over the top with this geometric stencil. She actually used a really interesting technique here. She applied clear embossing paste through the stencil, let it dry and then stenciled over the top. Her card has a wonderful shine where the dried embossing paste resisted the ink!

My first card uses a variation of the spotlight technique and it is a fairly clean and simple card. I simply wanted to add a little color to a card stamped in black on white paper.

Small Birds Stamp Set

Big Hugs CUTplorations Die

I love the look of stamping an image multiple times and then just adding color to one of them! I actually had the little bird all colored and fussy cut from a previous project and I was happy to use him here. I popped him up on foam and added the Big Hugs word die in black horizontally below the row of birds.

Quick and easy!

My next card actually has a bit more color and I used the same Small Bird stamp set and Big Hugs word die, but I added my Artsy ARTplorations Stencil.

For this card, I stamped the seagull image multiple times in black ink on white paper, then I added clear embossing ink over the Artsy Swirl stencil and used Kaleidoscope Powder brushed over the top. Mica Powder or Perfect Pearls powder would work here as well. This gave me color and pattern. I added a piece of black and white Washi tape and some black glitter to the side for some extra sparkle. I also added the Big Hugs die cut for my sentiment.

Another quick and easy way to add color to your black and white images without coloring!

My final card uses a watercolor wash of 3 colors of distress oxide inks: Broken China, Worn Lipstick, and Mustard Seed.

I added water to the center of a piece of watercolor paper and then dropped a little of each ink color into the water and let the water do all the work. Once this was dry I added some black splatter with an ink spray and let that dry. I stamped my image from the Small Birds stamp set and used the same Arsty Swirl stencil over the top. This time I made a mist out of the powder by mixing a small amount of the iridescent Kaleidoscope powder with water in a small mister bottle. I spritzed it over the top of the stencil and got a fun and sparkly swirl pattern on my card. I love the added pattern and texture on the card. I finished it off with my Big Hugs die for the sentiment to complete my card!

There are so many fun ways to add color to black and white cards without spending an entire afternoon coloring!

I created a video tutorial so you can see exactly how I did each technique. I would be thrilled if you subscribed to my YouTube channel and clicked the bell to get notifications every time I upload a new video!

Thank you so much for stopping by my friends! I would love for you to leave a comment and let me know which card is your favorite!

Have a fantastic day!
