{Mixed Media Tutorial} House Plant Jar by Asmah

Good day, fellow crafters! I bring you my my newest re-purpose diy ~ simple, easy and quick to make for yourself or as a gift for someone who loves succulent.

...Here we go...

I used the Layered Petals stencil to create a flowery design on my youngest daughter's baby food in a jar which I still keep over the years. She will turn 11 years old in August, wow, time flies!

Firstly, I applied pva glue over the stencil as a shield from spray paint. This is for someone who likes to keep her stencil clean and looks brand new {like me, lol}. After you have sprayed the paint over it, you can immediately wash it or just let dry and peel the dried pva glue later and wash your stencil cleanly. But if you don't mind your stencil has stain marks after usage then that's fine without pva glue.

I didn't wait until the glue dry though and just wrap the jar with the stencil and tied with rubber band.

Then I spray painted in my garden...

...until I felt satisfied and let dry under the sun.

I decorated the top part with brown twine for extra dimension and started planting the succulent after placing white pebbles at the bottom for drainage.

This is a fun spring project you can do with children as well. It's up to you to plant whatever you like and I think this makes a nice gift for family and friends who love house plant especially.

I hope my tutorial inspires you to give life to plain jars and fill them up with plants, pencils, brushes and just anything you like.

That's it for now. I see you when I see you. Happy creating.

Hugs and smiles,

  3. That is so cute! Great way to recycle and make gifts. I can see a set of 5 or 5 of these jars, each with a different stencil and different bright color, in a grouping. Now, where to get baby food jars?!?
