Adding a subtle layer of texture over a stenciled design can instantly elevate a clean and simple card. In this beautiful project by Vicki, a grid die-cut pattern is used to add a professional, "quilted" finish to the vibrant floral background.
The Technique
Instead of leaving your stenciled images flat, try running your finished panel through a die-cutting machine with a grid or piercing plate. This creates a delicate debossed texture that interacts with the colors without distracting from the main design. It’s a fantastic way to add visual interest to white space.
How to Get the Look
- Stencil the Florals: Use the Bold Florals stencil to ink blend a large yellow flower in the center, surrounded by pink flowers and green leaves.
- Add Spatter: Lightly flick some black ink or paint over the panel for a modern, artsy touch.
- Die-Cut for Texture: Place a grid cover plate over the dry stenciled panel and run it through your machine. This adds the dashed grid lines seen across the flowers.
- Sentiment Strip: Stamp the sentiment from Just Because set onto a light pink cardstock strip and mount it across the lower third of the card.
- Final Flourish: Add a single heart next to the sentiment for a pop of dimension.
Why We Love It
- Instant Dimension: The grid lines break up the solid ink blending for a more sophisticated look.
- Cohesive Design: The texture runs across the entire panel, tying the different stenciled elements together.
- Easy Customization: This works with any stencil pattern, from florals to geometrics.
