Creative Tip of the Day: Selective Stenciling & Double Die Layers

Today’s project by Monika is a masterclass in "less is more." By using strategic placement and clever layering, she created a card that feels both airy and impactful.

The Technique

This look is achieved by selective stenciling and die-cut layering. By only stenciling a portion of the background with the Wheels slimline stencil, you create a modern, asymmetrical balance. When you top that with a white-on-white layered butterfly using the Flutter Zen #1 layering dies, the result is pure elegance.

How to Get the Look
  1. Partial Pattern: Place your stencil and apply your favorite inks (Monika used vibrant oxides) to only a specific area of your card base.

  2. Layered Die Cuts: Die-cut your butterfly twice from white cardstock. Glue them together to create a sturdy, dimensional element that pops off the page.

  3. Sentiment Placement: Add a clean sentiment -- Monika used the (retired) Bloom Sketches set (images now available as digis!) -- to ground the design.

Why We Love It
  • High Contrast: The bright white butterfly against the colorful stenciled "wheels" creates an immediate visual "pop."

  • Easy Dimension: Layering two identical die cuts is a great way to add sturdiness and depth without the fuss of tiny foam squares.

  • Modern Aesthetic: Leaving "white space" on the card makes the stenciled area feel like a piece of art.
