Creative Tip of the Day: Selective Inking with Geometric Stencils

We're back with another Creative Tip of the Day, where we take a closer look at the clever techniques the STAMPgirls use to bring their projects to life. Today, we’re revisiting a beautiful card by Monika that perfectly balances bold geometric patterns with delicate florals. Whether you're looking to refresh your layout skills or find new ways to use your favorite stencils, this "spotlight" technique is a wonderful one to have in your creative toolkit. 🌸✨

Monika created this striking card by layering the intricate floral imagery of Blossom Sprays #6 over a vibrant, stenciled background using Design Blox #7. By selectively inking only specific portions of the stencil, you can create a customized "frame" or spotlight that guides the eye exactly where you want it.

How to Get the Look

1. Stencil First: Secure your stencil over a white card base.
   
   
2. Selective Blending: Choose 3–4 coordinating ink colors. Instead of inking the whole stencil, blend small sections in a diagonal or circular pattern to leave plenty of white space.
   
   
3. Bold Stamping: Once the ink is dry, stamp the large floral spray directly over the stenciled area using a crisp black ink. The black lines will pop beautifully against the colorful geometric shapes.
   
   
4. Finish with a Sentiment: Add a meaningful sentiment, like the "Keep on Dreaming" stamp from the So Loved 3x5 stamp set, to ground the design.
