Creative Tip of the Day: Instant Focus with Oxide Circles

Want to make your stamped characters pop without spending hours on intricate coloring? This technique is a total game-changer for your card-making! Shirley shows us how.

The Technique

Instead of coloring in your images, create a colorful backdrop first. By painting simple circles with Distress Oxides and stamping your images directly over them, you create an instant focal point and a playful, modern look in minutes. It’s the perfect way to add life to whimsical characters like monsters or doodles.

How to Get the Look
  1. Paint the Base: Using a wet paintbrush and your favorite Distress Oxide inks, paint soft, organic circles onto your cardstock.

  2. Let it Dry: Ensure the Oxide circles are completely dry to get a crisp stamped impression.

  3. Stamp the Monsters: Stamp characters from the Big Monsters and Little Monsters sets right on top of the circles.

  4. Add Your Greeting: Stamp your sentiment -- like "Monster Birthday Wishes" --overlapping the circles to tie the whole design together.

Why We Love It
  • Speedy Success: Perfect for when you need a high-impact card in a hurry.

  • Texture & Glow: Distress Oxides give a chalky, opaque finish that looks amazing under black ink.

  • No Stress: No need to stay inside the lines -- the "outside the lines" look is the whole point!
