{Spotlight Project} Monika Goes For Sparkling Crystals

Hello Crafty Friends! For today's project I wanted to try and create a rainbow sparkle for the gorgeous crystals from this month's premium stamp club set, Sparkly.

I started off with the vague idea of using sponged rays to make a row of cystals shine rather than colouring them in. With this in mind, I picked some stamps and trialed a few layouts on my base card which led me to decide on a roughly triangular shape for the crystal cluster.

As my base card wasn't suitable for watercolouring, the crystals were stamped on mixed media card and heat embossed using silver embossing tinsel. I stamped and embossed the crystals one at the time to avoid accidentally smudging the embossing powder.

TIP!: You can make your own embossing tinsel by adding some glitter to your embossing powder.

I then fuzzy cut the crystal cluster and coloured it using Hunter Gray Twinkling H2Os.

After attaching the crystal cluster to my base card, I sponged some rays around the tallest crystal using Melon Mambo ink, my splodge mat as a mask and the crystal tip as a point to rotate it around.

I repeated the sponging around the other two crystals using Daffodil Delight and tempting Turquoise inks and added some more colour around the masked crystals too. I didn't mind that my masking wasn't perfect. The white shadow adds some good depth to my design without having to use a gel pen to create it. It looks almost like and aura.

I stamped my sentiment using an almost black purple ink (Elegant Eggplant) rather than black. I felt black might be too heavy for my design.

To finish, I simply added a hint of matching colour to the bottom and center of the crystals.

The crystal cluster really shimmers and sparkles in the light.

That's it from me for today. If you fancy getting creative using some sponged rays of light or make a project using any of the techniques or ideas shared by my teamies in their Spotlight Posts, make sure to link up your makes with our spotlight project gallery here.

Have a lovely day!
